  1. Sticky Thread Sticky: I just need to get two references ...

Been out now for 3 months - 1 month was moving house and sat on my hole for the last 2. Usual story, Jobserved to death, and now dealing with the cretins. Over the last month, nearly every agency has asked for two references before they will "put me forward". Now I didn't come down in the last...

  2. Sticky Thread Sticky: Security Clearance (SC) Q&A Read first before asking questions

Please find below an accumulation of questions that have featured on some of the many reptitive questions about SC. Maybe by putting them in a stickie and adding when we get new ones we can bat some of the drudgery off. I have given canned answers from what I read on the forum but you know how...

Hello IT Contractors, I shall be moving to Germany next month and spending 14 months on a contract. I was reading up and apparently I need to fill out a P85 form and let the NHS know that I shall be moving etc? Even though I shall still be maintaining a home here in the UK is there any...

  7. Sticky Thread Sticky: Behaviour in the Professional Forums

I have noticed an increase in squabbling and bickering in the Professional forums of late. I am not amused. I do not care who starts the squabbling. I will finish it by banning all participants. The more persistant the squabbling the longer the ban. Feel free to disagree and correct but...

  1. Commuting for 2hrs each way every day. Any thoughts?

Hello all, I am coming across some opportunities where the commute is on average 2hrs each way (4hrs total a day). In the City I have known some contractors to leave around 6.30am for a 9am start but they tend to be of the 50+ age range and veterans of the game who have done it for a long...

Hi everyone, I joined my company as my first job 2 years ago as "Claims Executive". 6 months ago, my manager assigned me to be a "Claims Team Leader". 7. Monthly railway ticket- can this be expensed?

My accountant told me that I can't really expense the monthly ticket, as this could also be used for personal purposes. Pro-rata won't work as well. That all came as a nasty surprise to me... 8. Shift Allowance

Hi all, I am in a new job which require me to work 2 shift, morning and afternoon shifts on alternating basis. Should I expect shift allowance to be paid? Is it a normal practice for a contractor to be paid an shift allowance? If yes how much should I ask for? Thank for your help.

  9. On Call - week = half day TOIL

Probably crappiest offer I've ever had. 1/2 day TOIL for one week on call. Know permies get more than 1/2 days pay for weeks on call. If permies got the same % then they'd probably get £70 for the week.

Posting this on this forum as it's not exactly a professional rant. My first post here in three and a bit years. Redundant from my job after my entire service was closed due to the cuts being enforced by that nice Mr Hunt in the NHS. Over the last three years, I've had the same agencies...

  13. SC Clearance - 12 Months and still in progress

12 Months ago I applied for my SC clearance and the portal is still in progress today! How long could it take till I get an answer? Is there less chance of getting Clearance, the longer it drags on for? Are there cases where the status stays in progress indefinitely?
