  1. Using Excel via ODBC

I create a table with numeric columns but do not put data in it via ODBC. When I read it back the comes back as a varchar because it is unable to tell the data type without data. Is there any way around this, can you create the columns with some kind of tag etc?

  2. Website emailing problem

Been sorting a problem with manual spam sent from my website contact page and found another. If I enter my address in the email field the mail is sent but if I enter my address it isn't. Can't see why that should be. The PHP code is: $title = "Web Site Enquiry"; ...

  3. Microsoft Professional 2016 Installed, what is email address its registered to?

Microsoft Professional 2016 Installed So quite a while ago I installed MS Office, I had to create a Microsoft email account to do so, noted down the password of that account (which I generated just for that purpose), and never thought any more of it. Now it comes time to revisit this I cannot...

  4. SBC - Single Board Computer x86 64 bit

Currently working on a project where we want to provide an appliance for customers to run some software which is only ever touched once a year but is required for our other software to run. 5. How much do I need to spend on a basic Office laptop?

My wife's old laptop is dying and I had a quick look at Currys... and was amazed what you can get at bottom-end prices these days. For £300 or even under I saw a proper CPU, 4Gb RAM, etc. Last time I bought a laptop that money would get you an Atom and 32Gb hard drive; whereas these seem like...

  9. Online red & blue attack/defense simulations

Hi all, I'm currently on the bench and looking to make good use of this time to deepen my practical security knowledge before the next gig. 14. Smart TV or ChromeCast?

I want to get a fairly budget-y TV for my office (maybe another for the gym). 24-32" - ideally 28" though this is less common. I think I want to require full HD just for more future flexibility - it's fine for live TV which is the main use-case (news & sport while at work) but full HD means I can...

  16. Slow broadband for shared house - other options?

So this is for a shared house of 5 or 6 people. Only option is broadband with speeds measured today of 10mbps UP and 1mbps DOWN. Frankly appalling. No options in the area for fibre or cable. 4G coverage on phones is very good around there. Is there any other way of getting high speed...

Has anyone here bought a HDD from Amazon recently (within the last 6 - 12 months)? If you have, was the packaging adequate? Reason I ask is because when I last ordered a drive from them (couple of years ago), it arrived packaged like a book or CD/DVD. E.g knocking around loosely in the...

  19. Thoughts on GDPR for a contractor who doesn't handle any personal data?

Hi all, first post here, so I'm hoping I don't come off *too* clueless. I'm a computer visual effects contractor, operating as a limited company. My contracts invariably take the form of subcontracting for larger visual effects studios. Until fairly recently I hadn't even heard about GDPR, and...
