Laptop screen size for people with presbyopia (age related long sightedness)?

I'm getting my wife a new laptop for her birthday. She wears quite strong reading glasses and currently has a 15.6" screen. I'm wondering whether 17.3" would be better for her. Obviously it's not worth the extra cost if it won't make much difference.

Anyone found a bigger screen helps?

    Thanks

what does she use it for? - if it's always in a fixed location (desk, kitchen table), use an external monitor rather than a bigger laptop?

Yes it's in a fixed location; she doesn't take it anywhere. I did think about an external monitor but then she'd need an external keyboard as well, which starts to get a bit cumbersome.

Why not just get her a desktop, or re-purpose your old server that you are decommissioning?

Agreed. Desktops are no longer huge things. I have a Dell Micro that sits nicely under my TV and takes up very little room. Wireless keyboard means it's fully controllable from the sofa.

why? just connect external monitor and use two screens from laptop.

Yes perhaps a desktop might be better but that still leaves the question of what screen size to go for?

She only uses it to browse the web, on-line shopping etc, so the rest of the spec is not important. Whatever it is will be better than the 8 year-old laptop she's currently using.

Did a quick search. Didn't know you could get all-in-one desktops.

Sorry, woody1 for some reason I mistook you for Willendure. I realise that is unforgivable.

                  My current setup:
                  27" "all-in-one" desktop, mostly for photo/video editing.
24" monitor connected to client laptop.

Plenty of options for all-in-one, and they don't need to take up a lot of desk space

Reckon 21" desktop might be big enough. Certainly an improvement over 15.6" laptop, and looks to be cheaper than a 17.3" laptop.
