    Where to buy RAM?

RAM prices are eye watering right now, but I am pressing on with a Xeon 6 server build anyway.

    Ideally 4x DDR5 32Gb 6400 ECC RDimms at under £500 each.

If its over that I might just put 1 stick of 16Gb whatever speed I can get my hands on in, to get the thing running. Plan is to decommision the old server (has 256Gb RAM but ancient X99 platform) and bring the new one online at some point over the next year, so if I have to wait a year for prices to come down, I can probably live with that. At least I will be able to use the box for some planned test work in the meantime.

Anyone got a supplier they would recommend?

The usual suspects: Scan, Overclockers, eBuyer, etc.

They're all going to be eye-watering so you may as well go with a reputable seller rather than some random on Amazon.

As per my other post I've just bought a gaming PC from Palicomp. might be worth taking a look there : DDR5 RAM - Palicomp

        eBuyer closed down.

Scan, Overclockers - no stock on ECC RDIMs

Thanks for the link. They don't have ECC RAM, just non-ECC for Desktops.

Scan seem to have some stock (unless you called them and they don't)?

To the extent that all RAM is bloody expensive now, ECC RAM is especially not cheap, of course. But if Scan don't have the stock, you are really going to struggle as they are a pretty big supplier for retail/custom builds. There are obviously wholesalers like Westcoast who will have plenty of stock (to the extent it is available to anyone), but I doubt you will get a trade account with them.

edit: ah, TBF, you did say 6400mhz too. So, yeah, I guess they don't. But you also gave a price point of ~£500 for 32 Gb, which is absolute pie-in-the-sky for server RAM at the moment.

Your spec is listed on My Memory for £1800 (inc VAT) with stock due imminently

Not sure I would buy from them anyway, though - heard mixed things.

Holy Tulip! Prices have moved on since I last made a memory purchase.
The lack of availability and cost are crazy.

I only buy a new laptop every few years and used to buy the lowest amount of installed memory possible, then upgrade it myself.
For a much smaller amount than buying the memory already installed. Rip-off merchants. I'm looking at you, Dell..

But these days the laptops often have the memory chips soldered in, so you're paying the premium for them no matter what.

I've purchased from Crucial, and Orca Logic.
Also I've had fine experiences buying memory off Amazon. As long as the chips are to spec, you can do your own memory testing in situ. Not hard.

£630 for two off Amazon. Crucial Pro memory, I think it's to your spec.

That is probably non-ECC memory(?) It is a reasonable price for non-ECC memory, if you trust Amazon marketplace (I don't, personally). Server memory is significantly more expensive, though, and not as common from retailers.
