I normally buy from Crucial, but they've decided to stop selling to consumers; they want to focus on AI datacentres instead.

And I agree about prices being absurd. I bought 64 GiB of DDR4 RAM in July for £110, and I think I got quite lucky with the timings!

HWMBO has suggested CCL Online. He recently had to return a motherboard to them and said the customer service was good.

I've just looked at them and oh boy those prices are ouch.

No, its trebled since September and now its going up another 50% this week.

For my older server which still uses DDR4, I bought second hand 256Gb from Bargain Hardware, at a cost of about £120 almost exactly 1 year ago!

I would like 256Gb DDR5 6400 for the new server, but really I would settle for 128Gb and fill half the slots now, and fill the rest later. I was quoted £1800 excluding VAT, but then the supplier rejected my order and put the price up by 60% to £3000. Which is just too much.

So I have snagged a single stick of 32Gb 5600 off ebay and hope to at least get the thing running with that, and use it do some performance testing, either as the traffic driver, box under test, or network tap. I bought an Minisforum MS-01 on black friday sale for just under £500, it came with 32Gb installed, and that is already more than I paid for the whole machine! Reason for the MS-01 is it has SFP+ cages to set up for testing over 10G. Bought the 10G switch a while ago and not used it yet. Its been a slow build up to assemble all this kit, but the software is not even ready to test yet, so I am not in a mega hurry!

Kind of sucks to have 8 memory channels and only be able to afford to fill one of them... but I will wait, even if it takes a year or more, gonna be lots of cheap stuff when the AI bubble bursts.

That is probably non-ECC memory(?) It is a reasonable price for non-ECC memory, if you trust Amazon marketplace (I don't, personally). Server memory is significantly more expensive, though, and not as common from retailers.

If it's a business, they might have some luck if they have a Dell rep, as Dell buy RAM on contract which keep their prices stable for themselves, so you can sometimes negotiate with the rep. That said prices are so insane it might be genuinely cheaper to buy a low end off the shelf server and take the RAM out.

£630 for two off Amazon. Crucial Pro memory, I think it's to your spec.
