  3. Just opened my LTD, how to deal with paying myself?

I've finally taken the plunge and opened up own company. When it comes to paying myself I've read that it is best to pay yourself 8,164.00 per year so that you don't need to pay NIC but still get awarded the credits towards your state pension. However if I am to pay myself (it is only me working...

I have been a permanent employee for more than 7 years and am considering to switch to contracting. So far I have always been able to find permanent roles by applying directly to companies. However, looking at the job posts for contracting roles, all of them seem to be posted by agents and none of...

  13. Hourly rate - 'rule of thumb'

Although hourly rates are obviously always subject to market forces, I understand from a few sites that a widely used guide as to what you can reasonably expect to charge is as follows: Suggested hourly rate = 'Equivalent' perm salary / 1000 This looks simple enough but my question is, what...

  15. Finding work

After my first post last week a lot of the replies were saying, contracting is different, you have to find the work. I've only been a contractor for a year, 16 years as a permie, and both my roles came about from agencies approaching me. But being fresh faced in the contracting world, I'll be...

  17. Hello from Belgium

Hello everyone! I'm registering here, not as a contractor myself, but as a potential customer. I may be moving to the UK in a couple months since my wife's British and may inherit a house in Cornwall, and would move my accounting and consulting company there. And from time to time, I need some...

  20. Considering becoming an IT contractor

I'm not quite sure if it's worth it, but I imagine I'd need to go to London in order to do so, given the relative easiness it is to get a job there? I was reading a thread on this, but it was from 2017. Not sure if it still applied. The contracting rates certainly appear to be better. I'm not...
