Yes. I deleted my Xitter account very soon after Elon Musk made his real intentions clear. I'm on Threads and Bluesky, they seem generally a lot more civilised - but give it time

As pointed out earlier on, any efficient business will not have more staff than it needs so, if it lays off staff, its production and profits will decrease. So they won't do that on any significant scale.
As for offshoring & automation, if they could do more of that they'd already have...

Since any efficient business will get rid of staff they don't need, we can assume that they need all the staff they currently have to achieve their current level of sales. To continue their success or improve on it, in the absence of any innovative efficiencies, they'll need to keep all those staff...

Hmmm, let's see how much those businesses are struggling- Greggs: profits increased by 14% from 2022 to 2023
- Tesco: pre-tax profits £2.3bn, up from £882m, while sales rose by 4.4% to £68.2bn in the year to 24 February 2024

I read an article about this where they reckon £24m of that loss is because some "organised trespassers" broke into an unused factory and damaged assets and goods. And it made me wonder, if you have £24m of stuff in a building, wouldn't you at least arrange 24 hour security, even if you...

They won't do perm because the client manager doesn't have the budget for a perm headcount, I expect. Sometimes this is just because they only expect to need an extra person for a limited time, but it could well be that if that person proves themselves to be valuable, headcount budget will appear and...

Shame, he seemed like such a lovely chap, utterly devoted to his wife Prunella Scales and taking care of her as she struggled with dementia. Their Great Canal Journeys series was a pleasure to watch....

Was Edward Scissorhands the Matthew Bourne production? If so, I saw that years ago and it was fantastic.
I've seen Present Laughter with Andrew Scott via NT Live - also brilliant.
If you can, go and see The Book Of Mormon. Very non-PC but amazing.

You're completely mistaken about that. I'm very open minded about pretty much everything, including politics, and part of that is that you sometimes have to accept that you've been proven wrong about something and be big enough to admit it. Otherwise you're not really open minded. I've done it plenty...

The grounds for a rate increase in my view are fairly sparse:- You can get more money elsewhere to do the same role and you're prepared to have your bluff called and walk if necessary
- You can demonstrate quite clearly that you provide a lot more value than the rate they're paying might demand an

It amuses me how little critics seem to have to bash Starmer with. If we want to see people who really did well from donations, we only have to look at Conservative MPs.

Not completely sure I agree:- It's becoming ever more popular to get started in certain professions at an apprentice level and be at a similar level to, or higher than, a graduate of the same age when they join in 3 -4 years. But in the meantime you've gained 3-4 years of real work experience in that
