I'm not sure if it is a port issue because the VPN client does sound like it connects to the server, albeit only briefly.
If there was a port issue then the following may behave differently between Friend A's home office and Friend B's.

One point. This is a Parliamentary Committee, independent of Government.

They would say that. They're part of the establishment/elite/mainstream/swamp/lizards.

The only spec I've got for the unit is that it's 0.6 Joule. From what I've read, typically the pulses will be of the order of a few mS and a few mA.
The wattage is probably quite high but since the pulses are only a few mS, every couple of seconds, I doubt it would generate any heat in...Last edited by woody1; 19 September 2023, 15:48.

To rule out a generic VPN issue (as opposed to AnyConnect specific), I'd try connecting to the internet through a different VPN.
Many browsers these days have built-in VPN, so you may not need to install anything to check this.Last edited by woody1; 19 September 2023, 15:02.

Finding a 10kΩ resistor, rated at 10kV, is not that easy.
I did some (destructive) testing a while back, and found that ten 1kΩ (¼W 250V) metal oxide film resistors, in series, could handle the output from the fence unit without breaking down. 10kΩ (10W 750V) wirewound also worked...

Oscilloscope
I want to get one to view the pulse waveform from an electric fence unit. I'll use a resistor divider to reduce the voltage from 10kV to say 50V.

Can't stand going to supermarkets, and haven't done for years. Only get home delivery now, so Lidl/Aldi isn't an option. Even the nearest supermarket is half an hour's drive away; Aldi is a good 45 minutes so couldn't be bothered with that.
The delivery charge is less than we'd spend on...

No, I was talking in general terms, not about Brand.
And you're right, it doesn't look good. I'd be amazed if he ain't bricking himself....

Thing is, unless the dialogue was recorded, or there were witnesses, it's often academic. It just becomes a case of "he says, she says", which is why the CPS hardly ever agrees to charge. Even if it does get to court, the jury is faced with the same dilemma, hence the very low conviction ...Last edited by woody1; 18 September 2023, 14:36.

The local corporate-owned Vets has now started texting online surveys after appointments. Judging by the number the text came from and the survey website, and the fact that they are offering a £200 prize, I doubt the Vets set this up themselves.
I suppose it could be just a coincidence...

Watched one of those Police 24 hours type documentaries a few years ago.
A woman was found in the early hours of the morning, in a state of semi-dress, by tenants in a shared house. They didn't know who she was, and they called the Police. The woman had no recollection of how she got...

In my experience, the small ones are the worst for being nasty and bitey. (Albeit they probably can't maul you to death, or reach your nuts.)...

BTW, I should add that it's not the cost of treatment that worries us the most. It's the thought that you may not be able to trust Vets to act in the best interests of your animals....

Vets bills
Now being investigated by the Competition and Markets Authority.

Over the past few years we've noticed bills have been going up, and increasingly Vets seem to be pushing treatment,...
