True. I store the mower in the garage with power.
This Greenworks one might also do the job. It looks like it's based on a petrol mower platform. Slightly off-putting because, with all the mowers I've had, the steel deck has always been the thing which eventually fails.

My ideal mower (this doesn't exist AFAIK) would have removable battery(s) but you wouldn't have to remove them to charge them. Plug a cable into the mower and it charges the battery(s) in situ. In effect, the mower acts as a charging station for batteries for other tools. Then it wouldn't matter how...

BTW re. the use of 2 batteries.
Some manufacturers use the same batteries from smaller tools (strimmers, hedge trimmers). To get decent power/runtime in a mower from these smaller batteries, they need 2.
Other manufacturers opt for one big battery and, although these can often...

After doing a bit more research, apart from cutting width, which I'll opt for the same or slightly larger than the existing petrol, the biggest variable seems to be the batteries.
Ah can be misleading because machines run on different voltages (20V - 80V). Wh (V*Ah) would be more meaningful,...Last edited by woody1; 23 September 2025, 10:16.

Might also be worth bearing in mind for anyone, currently with an accountancy provider, who they fear may also be vulnerable to a future MSC attack. Taking less than 50% seems to be the only sure-fire defence....

[Rant]
Sadly, I can see Farage's lot getting in at the next GE.
Back in the 70s, when people were equally disillusioned, it flipflopped between Labour and the Tories. Now, the Tories are a spent force; aping Reform but why would anyone vote Reform-light when you can choose "full...

Our "lawns" were originally cow pasture (mainly rye). Even decades on, the grass is pretty coarse/rough/uneven. Bowling greens they ain't. Over 300sqm of that with a hand mower would definitely be a workout!
Also, we need something that collects the clippings efficiently, otherwise...Last edited by woody1; 20 September 2025, 07:28.

Guy down the road has got one, and it seems to work really well. Although, I'm not sure it's good for him; he's so sedentary, even the poor dog doesn't get a walk these days.
I don't mind mowing, and I actually prefer the push ones (not self-propelled) for a bit more of a workout....

Can't remember the brands; just did a search for 46cm cordless and many of them used 2 batteries....

Most of the bigger mowers seem to take 2 batteries, and they're pretty hefty, so I don't know if they would be interchangeable with smaller tools but I'll look into this....

Changing from petrol mower to cordless electric
I've always had petrol ones. Currently got an AL-KO 18" which has been brilliant but is now coming to the end of its life (corroded steel deck).
When I bought it, many years ago, I did consider cordless electrics but they were very pricey for a similar cutting width and decent run...

It was reduced on 29/7. Wonder what from?
According to sale history, it sold for £820k in 2019. That's only a 20% increase in 6 years. Perhaps it's under-priced.
Even if it were to fall or burn down, you could probably still get silly money just for the building plot.Last edited by woody1; 13 September 2025, 05:57.

I switched our smoke alarms from Alkaline to Lithium batteries which have a really long shelf life and seem to keep going forever.

I checked a few of the masonry paints they sell, and I can get them on eBay eg. the Bedec one above. They're a few quid cheaper on eBay and it saves a car journey....Last edited by woody1; 27 August 2025, 14:19.

Often it's the opposite problem (lack of use) that causes starter motors to play up. That was almost certainly the case with mine. Local garage wanted best part of £300 to change it, so I picked up a used one for 20 quid and fitted it myself....

Painting windows
Yes, another dull painting thread.
Spent part of the weekend painting windows. There seem to be 4 main approaches to dealing with the glass.- use a small brush for "cutting in" around the glass (you can even get angled ones designed for cutting in, although I didn't find this
