In the end, I stumped up the extra for Win11. Got a mini with Intel Alder Lake N95, 16Gb RAM, 512Gb SSD, and a 22" monitor.

If this is just about file sharing (not redundancy/DR/backup/security etc), couldn't the OP just share a folder on an existing PC?

There are similar on eBay.
Regarding Win10, how long do you think this is good for? I know support stopped last year but, if it's anything like Win8, it might be ok for a few years. I stuck with Win8 longer than I should have but eventually there were too many issues with browsers/web...

Thanks.
Did a quick search and mini PC + monitor is a lot cheaper* than an all-in-one. Sounds like it might be the way to go. Only slight downside is the extra power cable for the monitor.
Still not sure what screen size to go for though.

Getting out isn't a problem. The delays are getting in. But you're right, it's dependent on how many flights arrive at the same time.
Apparently, Jet2 try to time their departures from UK airports to arrive at the same time so it reduces the number of bus trips to the hotels. We witnessed...

In a perverse way, it might be better if airports/ferry terminals don't suspend EES checks over the summer. Everyone queuing for 5-6 hours and utter chaos might focus the minds on both sides of the channel. It might even persuade some diehard brexiteers to compromise a bit.
Given the umpteen...

Might be worth contacting your MP again.
Given the controversy surrounding this whole fiasco, HMRC should be made to reopen settlements.

I still live in hope that one day we may get this. No more EES, visas crap and the ability to retire in the EU without proving this, that and the other and jumping through all manner of hoops.
Obviously fat chance of that if Farage's lot ever get in.

Reckon 21" desktop might be big enough. Certainly an improvement over 15.6" laptop, and looks to be cheaper than a 17.3" laptop.

Yes perhaps a desktop might be better but that still leaves the question of what screen size to go for?
She only uses it to browse the web, on-line shopping etc, so the rest of the spec is not important. Whatever it is will be better than the 8 year-old laptop she's currently using.

Yes it's in a fixed location; she doesn't take it anywhere. I did think about an external monitor but then she'd need an external keyboard as well, which starts to get a bit cumbersome....

woody1 started a topic Laptop screen size for people with presbyopia (age related long sightedness)?in TechnicalLaptop screen size for people with presbyopia (age related long sightedness)?
I'm getting my wife a new laptop for her birthday. She wears quite strong reading glasses and currently has a 15.6" screen. I'm wondering whether 17.3" would be better for her. Obviously it's not worth the extra cost if it won't make much difference.
Anyone found a bigger screen...
