Nothing much I imagine. Other than that they're running out of time to stand any chance of trying to collect anything. The loan book may have only cost a few grand but so far I bet they've seen SFA return on it....

A few thousand for several hundred million.
That tells you everything you need to know about the reality of those loans!!!Last edited by woody1; 12 May 2026, 11:18.

I wonder how much W28 paid for the loan book? Is there any way of finding out?
The best way to resolve this once and for all, is for you folks to get hold of that loan book. Then no other vultures can keep coming back every few years hounding you.
I bet W28 would sell it...

Enter the following in Google. As you can see, these firms are like chalk and cheese, worlds apart.
who are gladstones solicitors
who are trethowans
On the face of it, the involvement of a top tier law firm is worrying but this could be just for show.

Do I recall correctly that a few years back people were offered the option to repay a % and have their loans written off? Has anyone who accepted this offer been included in this latest foray?
I guess there's not a lot that can be done at this stage until W28 make a next move?

Indeed it could. I've no idea how many scheme users are on the loan books they've got their hands on but even 1000 individuals with average loans of £50k would be £50m.
Clearly they are "investing" quite a bit of money in this paper exercise. They wouldn't be doing this if they...Last edited by woody1; 8 May 2026, 10:46.

I was referring to Trethowans Solicitors seeming high class. Not W28; there's nowt classy about them.
Google: trethowans llp top 150...

Googling Trethowans "West 28th Street", it looks like they have represented them on previous occasions.
However, these may have been normal debt recovery cases, and nothing like what's going on here....

Looking at their website, Trethowans seem like quite a high class law firm. You have to wonder why they would get involved with grubby scavengers like W28.

"The Irish budget operator is the only airline reported to have taken such decisions at Lanzarote Airport."
This is the 2nd time this year, and twice in 2024....

That would be a dangerous game on the home front. Prolonged high petrol prices, rising inflation, higher interest rates, worsening cost of living might not go down too well with the American public. Even the MAGA lot may start to turn against Trump, and Republicans could pay a heavy price in the midterms....

Different Montpellier I think. The IoM scammers were Montpelier (one "l").
Any way to tell how big a firm W28th is? Arnold is the sole director....

Out of curiosity, I looked up recent sold prices of similar houses on the same streets.
(1) £230k
(2) £270k
(3) £450k
I doubt salaries of the jobs we had have gone up by the same multiples.

Could the firms defending victims be in cahoots with the scammers? Probably not but, you know what, nothing would surprise me these days.
Previously, we've seen ambulance chasers coining it in "defending" scheme users against HMRC, when there was never really any chance of success....

Property certainly seems a lot more unaffordable now than it was back in the 80s and 90s.
In 86 we bought a new 2-bed semi in Stockport for £20k, on a 95% mortgage, based on one university research assistant £7k salary.
The following year we bought a 2-bed semi in York for £30k, on...Last edited by woody1; 30 April 2026, 08:26.

Don't do any of those.
I don't mind binning them every year or two but it just seems wasteful. We've got stainless steel saucepans my mother gave us 40 years ago that are still almost as good as new....

Non-stick frying pans that stay non-stick
We've gone through loads of them over the years. They're great when they're new but over time they get less and less non-stick. No amount of cleaning/scrubbing/scouring seems to restore the non-stick. We've tried lots of makes, with different non-stick coatings, but none last more than a couple of...
