Currently parked on the (shared with my neighbour) drive outside my house. I could run a long extension cable, but given they're quite old, it would be a trip hazard for them. It also specifically says, "Do not use an extension cable to charge" everywhere I've read online. I guess I could...

Yeah I plan on swapping to Octopus, but I need to work out if I can make the numbers work in the short/medium term until I can get something at home....

Electric car charging prices
Appreciate this is general so I'm expecting the usual torrent of abuse, but this doesn't really fit anywhere else.
Considering getting an electric car and I'm looking for an app/website that lists the cost of charging at local access points, I'll get around to putting in a domestic one...

I know Mint is an Ubuntu derivative, but it might be worth trying on Ubuntu. At the very least, the larger installed user base might have hit the problem before.

I have exactly the same - prefabricated office at the bottom of the garden. If you can run a network cable, I heartily recommend it, you can then put a mesh wifi access point inside your shed with wired backhaul. I use Netgear Orbis. Unless you're an expert or a glutton for punishment, you're better off sticking with Ubuntu/Fedora rather than some of the more niche distros - especially with laptops. That being said, Mint is, IIRC pretty standard Ubuntu with non-FOSS codecs installed, hence your better experience.
If...

Bluetooth in general, or specific devices? Ubuntu has been pretty decent for ages tbh, unless you're using a (cheap) laptop with an unsupported bluetooth chipset.

Not necessarily. it might be one of those stupid permie roles that only last x months, where holidays, sick pay etc are part of the 'package' on offer. Generally they pay around the same as a permie, but are only very short term (covering maternity or whatever), you're hired directly with no umbrella,...

Not seen this before. I wonder if it's the windows client 'restarting' the file transfer. TBH though, knowingly overwriting a file is bad practice operationally. If you think you might need it, make a backup, if you don't remove it as soon as it's done. Either of those are trivial using cron.

I've also got one of these:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/UGREEN-Char.../dp/B09PFRGBGR
Which will do 2 laptops at full speed at the same time, or multiple tablets/phones/laptops at a slightly slower rate.

You'll probably need a high power one tbh. Lower power ones may work, but are likely to be slower and/or not provide enough power to run the laptop whilst charging.
I'd probably stick to a well known manufacturer like Anker or UGreen, 100w is going to be plenty.
Something like...
