For IT contractor companies to discuss business and contract opportunities.
Please find below an accumulation of questions that have featured on some of the many reptitive questions about SC. Maybe by putting them in a stickie and adding when we get new ones we can bat some of the drudgery off.
I have given canned answers from what I read on the forum but you know how...
Been out now for 3 months - 1 month was moving house and sat on my hole for the last 2. Usual story, Jobserved to death, and now dealing with the cretins.
Over the last month, nearly every agency has asked for two references before they will "put me forward". Now I didn't come down in the last...
Just received this from an agency that some regard as being a bit Crap.
Hello IT Contractors,
I shall be moving to Germany next month and spending 14 months on a contract.
I was reading up and apparently I need to fill out a P85 form and let the NHS know that I shall be moving etc?
Even though I shall still be maintaining a home here in the UK is there any...

I have noticed an increase in squabbling and bickering in the Professional forums of late.
I am not amused.
I do not care who starts the squabbling. I will finish it by banning all participants. The more persistant the squabbling the longer the ban.
Feel free to disagree and correct but...

I have been running my own limited company, with me as the contractor.
My client is looking for a new hire, I could potentially supply them with another contractor via my limited company.
My questions are:
1) Would I need anything else apart from having a limited company?
Hi - I am a Canadian Resident and UK Passport Holder and I recently set up a Canadian Corporation so I can do contract IT PM work. I have found the market here not to be great and, if I have to travel 'out West' to Calgary/Edmonton as it seems I will need to, then I think I am better off going to...
I'm in the process of agreeing terms for a new contract, and it contains the now-typical "service company may provide own equipment" clause, but the client company are insisting they will provide a laptop for me...
I queried this, and was told it was to ensure "standard builds", etc and that...
When the client presents me with a NDA, should it be my name or the name of my Ltd. company which listed as one of the parties of the NDA?
This is my first post here. This Summer I finished my undergraduate degree and was one of the top members of my class. I was then approached by the University to undergo a PhD. The PhD would be funded by a top secret arm of the government and to do it I would need an SC clearance. This...
Not sure if this is the right place for this question. If not, I guess the mod(s) will move it.
If I am currently a sole trader and have helped a number of companies, but for one or two reasons, wish to dip my toes back into the 'employment market', and I spot a temporary job e.g. through...

I've been living a somewhat charmed life over the last 2-3 years in that my contracts have all dovetailed very conveniently and I've been in a constant churn of repeat business.
Regrettably, that cycle came to an end back in August (thanks Accenture, Infosys et al) and I've been enjoying a bit...
I think I'm losing the plot! I've just done a quote for PII with Hiscox, and been quoted c£40 for £1m cover and £100k legal fees (Business Consultancy, company since 2008, based from home, turnover between £100k - £150k). I've never paid this little before.
When operating alone in...

So I've gotten comfortable in my permie job, but the money can't support my jet-setting lifestyle.

I really like it, and other than money it's very good for work/life stuff and doing interesting things.

Has anyone used the SJD or Nixon Williams take home calculators? Are they broadly accurate? Or is there something I'm missing?
