That's a tough one, I suspect for many people they just stick with what they know if what they know is not deprecated. Like, I do .NET and it's not something that has come to an end yet, there's new versions all the time and it's still being used a lot. However the shift with it is very much to the...

Man I've always wanted to work with Louis Theroux
I rarely end up working with the people that interview me, only in small startups. Big cos I will never see the person that placed me the entire gig usually....

SC, first time I applied it took less than two weeks, and another job cocked up the transfer and reapplied which also only took a couple of weeks. Transfers have been much faster. Maybe I was just a good egg.
Current role said SC, I think they lied tho and it's just BPSS so I'll be raising...

I'm extended just reading all these posts about people getting boomed

I haven't reviewed it fully but I would imagine the client is basically saying, it's up to us to decide, in order for us to do that you need to fill out this questionnaire.
Then if HMRC says we think you're not behaving, they can say well we did as much due diligence as possible.

I wouldn't say it's completely over but for this outside gig I've been sent a long IR35 assessment tool thing, seems bespoke to the client and is supposed to be similar to the CEST tool except it will always give you a yes/no answer (apparently). Haven't done it yet because it says you should not do...

Two came at once, got congratulated on getting another role, 500 inside, but had to turn it down. AFAIK it was the same public sector via a different consultancy, presumably a different department but who knows.

Yeah for sure, usually you can get them in without a recruiter as well, which can be a nice rate bonus, although this gig is unfortunately recruiter-only, they obviously don't mind spaffing away 50-100 quid per day just to send an invoice to a different bank account at the end of the month.

Just got boomed. Posted a mini rant online and a fellow contractor saw it said their company was hiring, interview next day, offer today.
Someone has an expensive bottle of whisky going their way.

Hasn't been this bad since 2012-2013ish. At that point recruiters would be going full data harvest, 90% of roles were fake, everything needed references, super aggressive calls, they'd literally hang up on you the second they realised you didn't fit a role. I didn't start contracting until 2015 because...

Who is they though? All of my government roles have been through consultancies, one I worked in the consultancy offices alongside a couple of gov perm employees, another I worked completely for the consultancy and never spoke or met a single person from the gov agency, and the third one the consultancy's...Last edited by FIERCE TANK BATTLE; 14 November 2023, 10:53.

They always ask how I'm doing, if I have any other opportunities, and the answer is always nope the market is completely dead, I have nothing, so I'm really excited to hear about this role.
Reality is there's always stuff cooking even if it's basically recruiter vapourware, but I'll be...

Could probably argue that they brought the reputational damage on themselves, if plumbing LTD says they'll fix your radiator, gets half way through and the plumber quits, and they have no other plumbers available, then reputational damage caused by you blacklisting them is their own fault for not having...

I think it's mostly irrelevant cos perm is looking more attractive every day. I've interviewed for a role, if I don't get it, I'm going to start looking for perm. If I'm gonna get paid these inside rates might as well go somewhere that will pat me on the head and buy me a cake on my birthday

I did the irish grandparent thing. It was a pain to get all the documentation, and it took a year to process, then another 2 months for the passport.
Basically just had to pay a bit to get a copy of her birth certificate, and collect the info from my own parent, I got it all signed by a...

It's actually the EHCR
I thought the point was that you *are* an employee of the Umbrella, that being the whole point of IR35.
If you were working for Tesco and you accidentally turned the fridge off and someone bought an item and got food poisoning,...

Sounds like if there is an umbrella in this case, they are simply passing the terms onto you and washing their hands of them, so it does sound like it's what could be happening if there's an umbrella.
I know some contractors that will sign literally anything without even looking or questioning...

Why would there be an umbrella?
But even if there was, IBM can't possibly make such a demand. If they want someone that is going to stick around for 6 months they would need to draw up a 6 month fixed term contract, with penalties for breaking it. Which runs contrary to being an employee...

Personally I'm gonna try and go to belgium I think, just for something new, and there seem to be various jobs there which are english speaking. I want to learn French then I'll move elsewhere in Europe....
