They view the Geneva Convention as something that hamstrings their enemy.

Are we talking about Israel being hamstrung by the Geneva Convention? Because if we are, you may find that they don't give that much of a tulip about the hostages, their significance is nothing compared with the grand prize of wiping Gaza from the map.

Israel will try to do it within the law, this is why the West backs Israel. Hamas may well be eradicated but it is likely the sons of the nutters will hold the hatred. I have no idea how it will play out to peace.

Israel at least gives lip service to the Geneva Convention whereas Hamas deliberately break it. Rape, torture, targetted killing of civilians.

I read about one Israeli soldier who'd been on the last invasion of Gaza. He found a family of eight still in their home. They weren't supposed to be there. Later the block was bombed. Presumably the family was killed. He now campaigns against military incursion. Hamas kill a family of eight and go looking for more.

Amnesty International have some interesting reports on Israeli treatment of Palestinians.

Thank heavens you're not a person of influence, otherwise one might almost think that you're trying to discredit the organisation.

When the head of the UN comes out trying to justify Hama's actions it really brings into question the impartiality of all these organisations. If only these organisations had put more effort into trying to resolve the situation as opposed to justifying one side's use of force as legitimate but saying another sides is not.

Not one article on their website about the massacre that triggered the current crisis tells you all you need to know, there is a brief article on the day of the event justifying Hama's actions.

You're correct. Not one, but several:

7th October: UN officials strongly condemn deadly attacks in Israel

I have condemned unequivocally the horrifying and unprecedented 7 October acts of terror by Hamas in Israel.

Nothing can justify the deliberate killing, injuring and kidnapping of civilians – or the launching of rockets against civilian targets.

All hostages must be treated humanely and released immediately and without conditions. I respectfully note the presence among us of members of their families.
                    https://www.ohchr.org/en/press-relea...insist-counter
GENEVA (19 October 2023) – UN experts* today unequivocally condemned the targeting of and violence against civilians in Israel and Gaza.

They condemned the atrocity of terrorist acts carried out by Hamas on Israel civilians starting on the morning of 7 October, in Israeli towns, villages, homes and at an open-air dance party for young people.

“We decry the scale of the brutal assault on mothers, children, babies, the elderly and ordinary citizens going about their daily lives on the Jewish Sabbat and on a Jewish religious holiday (Sukkot),” the experts said. “The essence of terrorism is the targeting of civilians, and terrorist attacks leave the lives victims’ families, and survivors of these attacks irreparably damaged,” they said.
But it does appear that some groups want to deny anything has been said, and are spreading fake news to discredit the UN
