TLDR: Use the most appropriate application format for the type of role and the person making the decision, but make it sound like something really clever that no-one else has ever done before in a failed attempt to look smarter than others

What's more staggering is he believed an agent would do more than the absolute minimum for their dollar so should never get a gig every again with that approach.

The first slide was an exec summary split into two sections:- Situation: my understanding of the client’s current situation.
- Recommendation: What needs to be done to move the project towards its goals.
The second slide was a rough plan (with high-level detail) of what I’m going to do.
Third slide was a high-level overview of me, my experience, and the top three things I’ll bring to the project. It’s basically a CV one-pager.
I interviewed Thursday and received an offer email a few minutes ago (Sunday evening, maybe a bad sign?).
In this bear market, are you still pumping out generic CVs to JobServe? Maybe think about bidding for work like an independent professional consultant instead of a low-level contractor. Client said this is the first time they’ve seen this type of application; it was well received.

Maybe if you're taking the top 1/4 of your CV to actually talk about the business problem and your solution then you're only really sending the CV so get past the recruiter, nobody else cares.
I do what I do and I do it well, and anybody glancing at my CV will see that - I've no need for gimmicks. My CV is fairly unique, just not in terms of formatting and layout.Last edited by vwdan; 19 June 2023, 15:31.Comment

I've tried different formats too, like other posters above. Didn't get any work out of them at all. In my early years I even paid for a CV review that got terrible feedback from agents so that went in the bin.
The chronological format is easy to maintain and tailor for different audiences. I do agree for a B2B pitch, direct to client, a PPT or other format could well be the best approach. I see that working with a clued up client who knows what they want rather than a pimply agent who thinks a VAX is a type of carpet cleanerComment

He must be great to be able to send a PPT for a project before he even knows what the project involves.Originally posted by MaryPoppinsI'd still not breastfeed a naziOriginally posted by vetranUrine is quite nourishingComment
