Give your head a wobble …that’s not the way the cookie crumbles in London !! 😬

I didn’t mean to make a play on words with my user name but it seemed apt…

No job in 3 decades expect on the dot 9am as so many variables trains, bus , tubes can be delayed …least of all to deem it ok to mention a few mins delay …that’s nuts in my book ! Am not clocking in for a factory shift…
I once had a contract at a French investment bank and they literally used your swiping in/out times at the gates as your timesheet! Got a mate there right now and they're still doing it.

Sorry but what's wrong with being on-time for work?

I find it strange that people expect consessions due to traffic, accidents, delays.

On the odd occasion, yes I would agree being a few mins late is acceptable but to believe that it's always expectable is nonsense.

Unless of course you are some super uk contractor whereby the skills you have are not easily developed or learned, we are asked to work the working hours.

Do you also believe they should come and eject you from the building when it gets to 17:00?

Whenever I commuted into London I tended to find I arrived before the people who lived in London because if you missed your train there wasn't one five minutes later. Also travelling into London Bridge meant you could miss out the tube if need be for most workplaces.

That said, it doesn't really matter and most of the same people were still there when I left. In fact in some places you were better off being late and working late because you were more visible than getting in early to an empty office and doing exactly the same hours.

During interviews i make sure to ask what the expected work hours are and if the start time is flexible as a follow on question, although if the hours are flexible they will often say so themselves without me having to ask explicitly.

Recently many places dont mind you coming in late as long as you hit the daily scrum meeting time, which normally 9:30 although it was 11am at one client as they allowed us to commute in after rush hour.

Ah the good ol' "oooooh you're leaving early aren't you..." coming from someone who rolls in at 10am, when you've been in the office since 7am.

Yep. I am there now! I once worked at a place where someone from HR walked around at 9:15 and marked who was there, if you were not there you were assumed to be off that day - this was for permies rather than contractors too.

SchumiStars it was once I was late by less than 10mins so yes they are being totally OTT…and nit picking!

I have heard of someone being clocked in and out and they left after a week …it was akin to being in factory and working shifts…

You are talking nonsense and adding arms and legs who said anything about being a super contractor that’s the kind of stuff you come out with when you list all your attributes regularly on here …
