I once got a mate into a consultancy i was a perm at, this guy was really good technically, but really bad an interviews and desperate for work.
After my boss had interviewed him, he (the boss) came out and said, 'he is definitely junior' due to his bad interview performance.
    And offered...

The point is skilled labour, a hard engineering degree even from a top university, years of industry experience counts for very little. A pair of immigrants who have zero education, who can barely speak english can now earn the same as a contractor on 500 a day caught by IR35.
    And the gap is even...

So an unskilled couple both working at amazon warehouse could be clearing almost 5K a month after tax. Thats not far off the take home from £500 a day inside IR35 ...

A good agent will tell you before hand how the long the hiring the process is, how many tests and interviews are involved.

Even the bad ones don't have much to gain by not telling us if its going to be a long process with lots of tests. They end up looking bad to the client if the candidate...

Unskilled relative works in a local widget factory, gets time and half on Saturdays and double time on Sunday.

I think amazon policy is: 40-50 hours is paid at time and a half. Anything above 50 hours is double time.

    From the amazon fulfilment website:
    • Day Shift: £9.70 to

Another way of looking at it as your rate to minimum wage ratio

In 2000: I was earning over 20 times the minimum wage for the day.
Today we are lucky to get 10 times the minimum wage. Outside of finance, forget it, going to below 10x

Even worse for perms, 40K a year is...

Inflation adjusted it is depressing. But it is even more depressing than that!

I was on £675 a day in 2000 as java developer. Thats around £1200 a day in todays money.

As if that is not depressing enough. My current rate today is actually less than £675 a day, 20 years on!...

Currently clients also issues new laptops at the 3 year old mark, even if your current one still works fine....

The Cadbury website says that the reason behind the Flake being called a "99" has been "lost in the mists of time". However, the website also references an article from an old Cadbury works paper, which states that the name came from the guard of the Italian king, which consisted...

How much was a pint at a weatherspoons?

Failing that, the pubs could try some shrinkflation to trick the customers. 0.75 of a pint for £4.50, but in pint sized looking glass.
As long as its advertised as 425ml, it should be legal....

By your great granddad i meant people living and working the in pre war period or even in the 50s and 60s and 70s.

Wages were so low that they used to spent as much as 75% of income on food. Rents and houses were cheap because people didn't have any money left over to bid up house prices....

Your great grandad probably earned like £20 a day, or less, in todays money.
    They didn't revolt back then.
We all live like kings in comparison, even a couple on minimum wage can take home over £3000 a month after tax with a bit of weekend overtime.
So i cant see why anyone would...

As a contractor the only power they have over you is to fire you or not renew you.

A permie at client co was 'managed out', you don't get that BS as a contractor,...

Now they dont have dedicated manual testers, there are SDET who both write automated tests and do manual testing.

Also the main application developers are expected to do manual 'peer testing'...
