I can concur that there are fake recruiters or strange people on LinkedIn. The clue is "nice little project with potential for extensions".

So are you expert genealogist as well? What you describe is sampling rate of 2 over 2 decades. Have you heard of a person being a Russian Jew, German Prussian Pole, or maybe learnt about Naming Tradition culture in different parts of the world?
