    Morning.

    Friday.

    Windy, very.

    Dry.

    Grey.

    Wanly sunny.

Chilly in here at 11.7 deg, 10.5 in the kitchen, 10 in the leanto.

989 mBar, 29.2 in Hg, 741.8 Torr, 14.344 psi, (down from 991 last night), 60% RH (Lidl electric).

Meanwhile on the 22nd of December 2019 there was much posting by Brillo & BR14, whereas the oak island nutjobbery proceeded as futilely as ever: they ain't found tulipe, and anything they do find is mysteriously ignored for 3 years only to get a brief reference when it's needed to fill out a further 3 minutes.

    Still sunny.

    Lunch: brunch.

Entertainment: the china thing on R4.

Walk (unabbreviated) walked in the sunshine. The breeze was a good deal more obvious walking back down the hill than walking up it.

    Book. Other book.

    Tea: soup etc.

    Entertainment: PM <click>.

    News Quiz.

Whatever else I can find in the EPG.

Lucy Worsley on Bloody Mary (not Wales, thank feck for Freesat).

    Book. Other book.

    Read chapter about "Elite".

Blue skies here. I can see them from inside my lawnmower shed.
Summerhouse roof remained intact, a minor leek at the french doors in the lounge, and the wind has blown through.

      TFIF, etc.

Shopping has been done, Big Sainsbury's being this week's emporium of choice

The only notable incident was that somebody was already having a loaf sliced when I rocked up to the counter, so I didn't have to hang around for several minutes waiting for somebody to come out of the back of the bakery bit so I could ask them to do mine

Oh, and when setting out, the car started first time in a manner that can only be described as "enthusiastic", reinforcing my belief that the starter motor is actually fine and it was just the electricity that was lacking in sufficient oomph (as I believe the relevant SI unit is called)

Lunch has been a couple of garlic and herb chicken thighs from the still-quite-warm-at-that-time food counter

Tonight's tea has been ribeye steak with chips, fried onions, and beans

This was accompanied by Inside the Factory on the subject of flapjacks

And during the afternoon, I was doing some more mucking around with SpriteKit and GameplayKit, finally working out why some blobs that should have started moving were not doing so - turns out they find it hard to get up to speed when their maximum allowed acceleration is set to zero

Got stuff done at work. Then came home.

Dinner was takeaway left overs from Tuesday evening.

The laundry is dry so that means the remaining bits can be done tomorrow. Then it all gets repacked for the trip commencing next weekend.

Tonight's major motion picture premiere was Paycheck (2003) which ought to be called Paycheque in the UK. Anyway, it's a near future sci-fi thing about a guy who works on secret stuff then has his memory erased for commensurately large amounts of money, but finds that he's signed away a huge payday for a collection of bits and bobs and has to work out why he'd do something as dumb as that. It's not bad, though not great either. It has its moments

Then a rewatch of Arrival (2016) which I like because it raises some interesting questions about the nature of language and communication. I recently bought the collection of short stories that contains the one on which this is based, so I must read that soon

And then a couple more episodes of Masters of the Air (TV Mini Series 2024). This is very good in many ways, but they keep adding these scenes suggesting that civilians and, particularly, kids were allowed to wander willy-nilly around USAAF airbases, which seems unlikely given both safety and security considerations. I assume they still think it's important to reassure American audiences that the British didn't mind having them there or something

                  Goodnight all

A bit icy out there, so I’ve delayed our walk as long as possible. CBS, etc.
…Maybe we ain’t that young anymore

                      Morning.

                      Saturday.

                      Dry.

                      Sunny.

                      Frosty.

                      Calm.

Cold in here at 11.1 deg, 9 deg in the kitchen, 7 deg in the leanto.

1002.5 mBar, 29.6 in Hg, 751.94 Torr, 14.54 psi, (up from 995.5 last night), 62% RH (Lidl electric).

Awake at 5 again: read more book: this bit about Vodafone.

Meanwhile on the 23rd of December 2019 NF was done with Baltimore, so was viewing something else called Spiral, Brillo contributed posts, BR14 waved, I woke at 4 and finished off the "Agent Jack" book, whereas opm was off to Manchester for some reason, and there were 8 eps of the then current oak island nutjobbery to go.

Shopping trip to Morrisons done dusted washed dried sanitised & put away.

Walk (greatly abbreviated) walked in the sunshine.

                      Lunch: brunch.

Entertainment: Money Box <click> The News Quiz. For all the bits I missed yesterday.

Finished other book. Started new other book: C wot I did there? .

Freecell score: 100% (of 5), running average: 81%. Discovered yesterday that this box has a USB 2 card installed. I'd forgotten that. Maybe it could come in handy, like, for running a scanner or two, one of which might actually work & allow me to scan my mum's cookery books.

Tea: soup (again): vegetable with added wegetables to bulk it up a bit. Nice enough.

Entertainment: PM. Robinson talking to Jo Cox's sister. It lasted longer than most eps before going <click>.

"A cold war of spies" on PBS. Seen it all before but at least there's no ufos or lunatic ufo searchers involved. Showing The Thing at this very moment.

Book. Other book. Other other other book back from "Foundation" ("The 1000 year plan" other half by Poul Anderson).
