    ^^^ Om.

    Morning.

    Monday.

    Damply dry.

    Sunny.

    Blue sky in parts.

Chilly in here at 11.9 deg, 11.5 in the kitchen, 9.5 in the leanto.

976.5 mBar, 28.836 in Hg, 732.43 Torr, 14.169 psi, (up from 975 last night: 28.79 in Hg, 731.31 Torr, 14.14psi ), 64% RH (Lidl electric).

Meanwhile on the 23rd of December 2019 NF added to LM's tale of deicing by relating the time his plane was deiced on the way to Aberdeen, also relating that he'd had compo off East Midlands Railways for the late arrival for the CUK do in Manchester, but was still awaiting compo for the even slower return trip, whereas I had poached egg & tomato for lunch, plus a beetroot sandwich.

Walk (unabbreviated) walked in the sunshine. Bit breezy out there.

    Lunch: brunch.

Entertainment: "Shadow War". Sadly in this one we can't just tell them to feck off.

    Y&Y <click>

Now wondering how you manufacture a logarithmic wirewound potentiometer. Does not compute.

Oh, they could be made but by heck they'd be expensive.

Even more expensive if you want true log rather than "audio taper".

Freecell score: 71%, running average: 81%. Zonked out rather In the Zone. Ho hum.

Tea: chicken in white sauce etc. Remind me not to use pilau rice for it again.

    Entertainment: PM <click>

    Book.

Trying to get label off other book: 3 types of stuff so far & none of them are touching it. I wonder if I've still got some lighter fluid.

Oak Island nutjobbery. Lead disc with two perforations: from Italy apparently. Next week it's Roman stuff again.

Secrets in the Ice. Bodies found on a south American mountain glacier: plane crash: Flight 11 & Flight 232: August 1972. Viking treasure Norway. Toronto "thunderclaps" at -30 deg C: "frost quake". Greenland: no orange mother****er mentioned. Timber eroding out. Viking era longhouse.

      Morning Afternoon all

It was sunny with lumps of fluff this morning but it's clouded over a fair bit since but still bright. Dry albeit damp from much overnight rain. Currently 8 degrees ('feels like' 5) and that's the high for the day. Rain expected for the rest of the day, with potentially a thunderstorm. Barometer down to 982 mBar.

      Sunrise 07:47; Sunset 16:42

Busy week at work this week. Much to do before I go jetting off again.

Just about to have some crumpets for brunch.

Lunch: Heinz oxtail soup and white toast

Meanwhile at ClientGov, they've noticed that if the consultancy doesn't win the new contract, I'll be the only developer left on the project in a couple of months. So I'm being put in charge of a subproject with orders to extract all of the knowledge and expertise the consultancy people have acquired over the last eighteen months or so and cram it into my head, just in case

The lift engineer has been, again, and fixed the lift, again. It remains to be seen whether it will remain fixed. It may even have broken again already

I read something the other day claiming that oxtail has become quite expensive over here because of celebrity chefs going on about it and the speciality butcher crowd clamouring for it as a result. No idea if that's true though

                Tea was chicken leftovers

This was accompanied by the new Pompeii thing on iPlayer. Some remarkable discoveries in this one

And I forgot to record last night that I've started reading Stories of Your Life and Others by Ted Chiang, a collection of short stories. Very good so far, having read the first three; the next is Story of Your Life, on which the film Arrival is based, which is why I got the book in the first place. But I'm glad it's not the first story, as I might have been tempted to read that and not get around to the rest, whereas I now know the others are definitely worth reading

There was some rain earlier, and it's very windy again

                Goodnight all

                  Morning denizens

Still quite windy, though not as much as it was, and some evidence of more rain overnight. It's still fairly mild at 6°C though topping out at 7° again, and the barometers are keeping their heads slightly lower down at 964/972mB. There are yet more showers likely (55-65%) during the day

                    Morning all
Light drizzle on the walk, but that was better than the storms overnight.
"mains" water is running, but at reduced pressure. Possibly related to the two tankers hooked up to the supply pipe in the next village and the 6 SWW vans that are parked around the pumping station. The curtainsider with its pallets of bottled water is still there tools I suspect we're not out of the woods yet.
…Maybe we ain’t that young anymore

                      Morning.

                      Tuesday.

                      Grey.

                      Damp.

                      Dreary.

                      Sunless.

Chilly in here at 12 deg, 11 deg in the kitchen, 10 deg in the leanto.

980mBar, 29.939 in Hg, 735.1 Torr, 14.21 psi, (up from 973 last night: 28.733 in Hg, 729.8 Torr, 14.11 psi), 67% RH (Lidl electric).

Meanwhile on the 23rd of December 2019 NF was off out buying chocolates at M&S, popping in Sainsburys since he was close, and I was cooking tea and discussing The Zone in terms of Freecell.

                      Lunch: brunch.

Entertainment: "Shadow Wars": we'd be better off with the Bab5 version.

Thing at 13:45 about the wonders of The Market Economy so beloved of The Great She Elephant & how privatising the water industry would lead to cleaner rivers & seas due to the investment. Surely no one can still believe that pack of lies?

Found lots of dust so spent some time dusting in the bedroom, then vacced (roughly) the house since the urge to do so seemed quite strong. Remarkable amount of filth on top of the wardrobe (and I only dusted it about 6 months ago ).

Even found a couple of cardboard boxes to hold some electronic projects that have gathered dust* since I retired.

*Quite literally: the LCD on one was barely readable.

Then stepped on an IC, fortunately with my big toe & it didn't penetrate. Must have fallen out of said project at some stage.

Tea: Tesco battered haddock etc. Nice enough.

                      Entertainment: PM.

Other Book. Stone me there's a lot of star wars I never knew about & care less about.

Shooter S3 E7, E8. Or rather, that's tomorrow's viewing since it starts at midnight.

Two more of these unless they choose to show the last 4 all the way to 04:00 next week.
