      Back from the shops

Or shop, as I only went to Sainsbury's. Skipped M&S as anything I might "need" from there I already have, and I'd just have ended up buying stuff I don't really need at all

It was just spotting with rain on the way down but, when I went to leave, the lobby area was full of women who didn't want to get their hair wet. Not being constrained by such considerations, I got pretty fairly drenched in the downpour outside.

And it turned out I was early enough that they didn't have the chicken bits out on the hot food counter yet, so now I have to decide what to have for lunch instead

                Odd.

He never seemed particularly offensive as far as I can see, but I don't spend much time on here any more.

Not that I've suddenly got a life, but other than tpd the place seems so totally unfun and unamusing compared to what it was.

Bugrit. Symptoms point to honey fungus, and the dry weather has exacerbated them.
Option 1: Need lots of rain to let the fungus and tree survive symbiotically. This risks the fungus spreading to other fruit trees nearby.
Option 2: Dig up and destroy 50+ year old apple tree which (since I started managing it 8 years ago) has produced a good crop of eaters that also blend well to make good cider.

I remember the apple tree planted by my grandfather bearing exactly one lovely looking apple before it pegged it.

The thing was so hard you needed a saw to cut it.

After which the saw got used on the tree.

There's a lawn there now, unmown by the preternaturally idle mother****er who bought the house.

Which turned out to be chicken and barley soup with wholemeal toast

The rain's holding off for now here, but it's still very grey with an aura of dampness
