Been booking flights and car hire myself to visit dad. This time of year he is at his most animated and when he called me at half time, I knew if I mentioned Dupont it would get him talking.
In his day he was a fairly good fly half, so he’s always got comments to make.

    Anyway, TFBSZ
…Maybe we ain’t that young anymore

Tonight's major motion picture premiere was RRR (2022), the epic Indian movie which had people all a-twitter when it came out. It's only on Netflix so far which is why I hadn't seen it before. It's cracking stuff, but I was amused to find that although it has some incredible special effects going on which more than justify all the excitement, it's also in many respects a Bollywood movie. So there are all the things that implies, such as songs and dances, and a complete disregard of standard Hollywood conventions such as continuity if it gets in the way of making a good movie. To be clear, I'm not saying this is a bad thing; I thought it was an excellent film, and really enjoyed the songs and dances mixed in with preposterous levels of violence and brutality

It did occur to me, though, that the IMDb "Goofs" page is probably an utter mess, given that Netflix managed to attract a large Western audience to the film. I assume the people who nitpick about absolutely everything were all over it wailing "NONE OF THIS COULD HAPPEN THAT WAY, OR EVEN AT ALL!" I can only hope that if they did do that, they've all been shunted by now to the "Incorrectly Regarded As Goofs" section with a sentence appended saying "Of course it isn't realistic. It's a film."

I've achieved some degree of success doing this; there are several supposed Goofs for films I've watched that now reside under the Incorrectly… section with a dismissive explanation from me that it's just a film. Sadly, there are more where I have to point out that they've not noticed something else in the film that explains the supposed error, or even had to explain that the film is factually correct in its depiction of the matter - possibly the only thing the film got right - and they just don't know what they're talking about. I've got one under The Day After Tomorrow (2004) - Goofs along those lines

Anyway, after that, a rewatch of Nobody (2021) which I think is the best film of its kind… so far

      Goodnight all

            Morning.

            Saturday.

            Dry.

            Sunny.

            Frosty.

            Blues skies.

Chilly in here at 11.8 deg, 10.5 in the kitchen, 9 in the leanto, 2.6 in the saltinghouse.

1024 mBar, 30.238 in Hg, 768.1 Torr, 14.852 psi, (down from 1025 last night), 59% RH (Lidl electric).

Meanwhile on the 24th of December 2019 LM was still a bit , Brillo popped in, NF was doing stuff, and I was looking at audiophool type connecting leads for stupid amounts of money: an audiophool & his money are soon parted.

Shopping trip to Morrisons done dusted washed dried sanitised & put away.

Walk (unabbreviated) walked in the sunshine. Fox observed.

Assorted bits in the WM, out of the WM & pegged out in the sunshine. Should make the place a bit more fragrant for a while. .

            Lunch: brunch.

            Entertainment: FOOC. The news quiz.

Washing in off the line & in the TD.

I assume next door will, as usual, allow the washing on their line, which was dry yesterday, damp overnight, & dry now, remain there until one or other of the idle pair deigns to bring it in.

Everything out of the TD & airing upstairs: half a cup of water out of the TD.

Tea: Brains faggots and peas etc.

Entertainment: PM. Some Tory **** talking to Nick Robinson: two people I cordially detest, thence TWEP <click>

"So here I am: 100 years of crofting (1982)" on BBC Alba. Still strikes me that those "cleared" off the land to Canada were better off in the end than those who remained. Go west.

"Ulster in Focus: the Loughsiders: Lough Erne (1978)" with Seamus Heaney. Lots of graveyards. Liam Neeson & railways next week.

Tina Turner: Live in Barcelona: one of the cameramen was upskirting her at one point.

            Book.

Freecell score (W95): 57%, running average: WTF?

Last 20 minutes of "Joe Kidd (1972)" again: I like the totally impossible cold bore sniper shot made by our hero with a gun he's never used before.

First 10 minutes of "First Blood (1982)", then it went <click> as soon as The Nasty & Very Foolish Sheriff turned up.

              Morning denizens

Grey day, though not too gloomy and dark so the overcast's probably not that thick. Mile enough again: 5°C aiming for 6°. And the barometers are up a chink more at 1016/1025mB

Greetings from Charles De Gaulle airport, local time 1305, where HWMBO and I have boarded our flight to Tunis and are waiting for the remaining plebs to board.

Sunny and dry. Currently 5 degrees ('feels like' 2) and that's the high for the day. Barometer at 1029 mBar.

Gaw! You do get around lm. Wish I still did, only been to IOW in last 2 years. Used to spend me time hitchiking round Europe once including USSR. Lived in Oz for a while. Lots of business trips too, Pittsburg, Moscow, Medan, Singapore, Oslo and somewhere in Switzerland, forget where.
