    Exactly fiisch !

Some people have zero sense it is hilarious

The latest census shows that only 4% of the population are black this is a white country.

Due to the crazy DEI nut jobs black/ethnic groups are being over represented to tick a box, more so in SME's by proprtion of the population.

As rocktronAMP was banging on about anecdotal and saying it is "common sense" here is one for him:

Can't quote the names as these are real life people. in my most recent job I had dealings with the Home Office and all names bar one were Middle eastern/muslim, African/Indian. It was an eye opener, so you are talking tosh. It was a case of spot the white person you would not think this was a UK office, it felt surreal as I had actually worked at the Home Office two decades ago and the change is phenomenal I was shocked, really shocked at the speed of replacement.

Even when you look at IT conferences where professionals are speaking, I don't see change: same old faces like Talking Heads (Same as it ever was). I admit this evidence is anecdotal as in common sense.
Odd thing to count and keep a track of tbh...

Given the headcount of small to mid-level businesses, and that <4% of the population is black, I'd agree your anecdotal evidence is drivel.

On a similar note, I work in London, and in 20 years have only worked with three Project Managers who were from North of the Watford gap.

Anyone who has been on the bench for an extended period of time, much longer than they can afford, will take it out desperation.

WillEndure has returned to the bench.

Contract is at an end and I told them I was leaving anyway - turns out there was no extension on offer either. A mutual split from a decent enough client that has paid on time and seen me through a tough market. I could even say, proud of achieving a thing or too, and the hiring manager did acknowledge at least that it was a tough gig and I did it without complaint (I vented on here instead!).

What is next in life? Its such a lovely feeling to enjoy that moment of having a bit of money and freedom. I could happily go back to the life of working 1/2 but getting paid double what a permie does, now that my mortgage is paid off and kids are a bit older. Its good to be reminded what the positives of contracting are.

Kafka seems to be still alive as a well paid and fairly niche skill. Been using Kinesis a lot lately for AWS stuff, but its not as good as Kafka and Kafka Streams. Actually I have a little project soon to interface a new stream processing language into Kafka Streams, will tell you about it some time if I pull it off.
