Woke (adj): having or marked by an active awareness of systemic injustices and prejudices, especially those involving the treatment of ethnic, racial, or sexual minorities

I'm sorry you see that as a negative label, personally I'd consider it a compliment to be called woke. But judging by the usual content of your posts, you might consider it an insult.

Same here. It's the line I tend to use when a discussion on politics, future of jobs, immigration etc gets too indepth. 'Ah well, I'm glad I'll be dead before then' usually cuts any discussion short.

Sadly, I can see Farage's lot getting in at the next GE.

Back in the 70s, when people were equally disillusioned, it flipflopped between Labour and the Tories. Now, the Tories are a spent force; aping Reform but why would anyone vote Reform-light when you can choose "full fat". It won't end well mind you; electing popularists never does.

I hate to think what America will be like in 4 years time. Full blown authoritarianism? Trump the defender of free speech; what a joke. Aye, free, as long as you don't make fun of or criticise him or his fascist regime.

My only consolation is I'm old, and I might be dead before 1929*.

    * I typed this before realising the mistake but then thought WTF, this decade may end even worse. :Armageddon

I'd prefer a government that actually cares about the Country, its institutions and culture. Everyone has their own interests at heart but Labour and Tory have been proven to not have the countries interest at heart.

Government in the UK has for many years been provided by Tories or Labour; neither has done anything much to improve the lot of British people in the last 30+ years. Quite the reverse.

I reckon that failure of the main parties to identify and effectively address concerns leaves many voters complacent regarding the downside risk of voting for more extreme options. In short, many people seem to think that they'll have nothing to lose and possibly something to gain (although this is likely illusory).

On one simple measure, Government isn't doing anything to help reduce living costs - quite the reverse, allowing regulated firms to raise prices, freezing tax allowances.

One good thing we may not get another Labour government for a very long time after the next election

"Andy Haldane warned that Labour’s growth plans were failing to support parts of the country where voters feel neglected and disenfranchised."

Which leads me to wonder - in which part of the country do voters not feel neglected and disenfranchised?

Everyone I know feels politically and economically neglected and disenfranchised. In fairness, it's not all this government's fault - much of it is legacy - but they're not fixing it.
