Yes i remember when i was a youngster, paying out of my own pocket to stay away Mon-Fri while on £200 a day inside! I’d have been delighted with one day a fortnight.
Luckily back then my personal outgoings were about £5.60 a month…....

Did similar a few years ago, although for me it was two consecutive days once a month. I just took the hit as a personal cost for train and hotel - the rate was very good so it just meant a few hundred quid less a month for me. I’m not a fan of massive commutes before/after work, although I know people...

Guess a lot depends on your personal position - if being out of work in Jan is no big deal you can push for more, delay signing etc. If no work in Jan means the mortgage doesn't get paid and the kids are eating spam sandwiches for tea then sign and try and improve later (but ultimately accept whatever...Last edited by Ketto; 18 December 2025, 16:09.

I was told i was on the blacklist for a large multinational back in 2008 for not attending a 2005 interview without cancelling, even though I did cancel! Probably a good thing in hindsight, I may have ended up working on something in a Toby Jones drama.

Same here. I say this as someone with the opposite of an agenda against the company, I really value having a trustworthy brolly i can use as my first choice should the need arise and they were it (like Contractor Umbrella were back in the day). My reaction to this situation would be the same if any...

In my experience all compliant umbrellas are broadly similar - but most of those I have worked with in the past seem to have their own unique quirks and ways of doing things which pee you off in different (sometimes major, sometimes minor) ways. Given the Clarity situation the next best from past experience...

It feels a bit like when Contractor Umbrella
got bought out a few years back, lots of us used to recommemd them prior to that that and before Clarity was set up.
