Perhaps. But it could be done with less people, different people, in a different way or somewhere else.
Things always evolve - couple of years of Covid turbocharged a huge amount of change in working practices, quickly followed by rapid development in end user facing AI tools, the application...

Lol. If you included a leisurely brunch (at home), laundry and a trip to the gym, that sounds like my other half and I at home, working hard in FS...

Care to share the listing? That has to be a mistake, I can’t recall ever having seen any inside contract that pays £120 a day!
Working backwards from net pay, that translates into a PAYE salary of around 21k or so which (even for a 35 hour week) is just above min wage!...

hungry_hog Just curious, are these London-hybrid contracts generally? If so, how many days pw in the office is expected at your client?...

Apologies Antthe I wasn’t poking fun at you and wish you the best with this opportunity!
For resources, given what I know of the big 4 consultants , I’m assuming it’ll be much the same across all of them so perhaps look at the material Deloitte has shared here

I probably don’t have as much contracting experience as you, given that I’ve never been pure IT and moved from operations permie to consulting outside to now a generalist PM contractor (mostly inside post covid) over a 20 year period, but there is definitely a trend over the time I have been in...

I have no idea about all this works. The way I see it, non-statutorily-required wage growth can only happen if there’s the money to fund it so if companies aren’t doing well, or aren’t investing, I don’t know where the money will come from for salary hikes. Doesn’t apply in the same way to...

Just to be clear, as I mentioned in my post, the comment you’ve quoted (Megan is wrong) isn’t mine, it’s a comment under the FT article
The Swiss central bank cut rates by 0.25% (from 1.75% to 1.5%) a few weeks ago, so you never know!

Tbf her opinion isn’t shared across the MPC.
An alternate opinion (copy pasted as-is from the top rated comment under her FT opinion piece) is as follows. Only time (and future unknowns) will tell who turns out correct -
“Once the tricky March-June annual comparison period...

That’s your opinion, fair enough.
Half the things I enjoy on the UKCF forum aren’t strictly ‘relevant’ to me but I follow it for entertainment and knowledge. Prior to coming across this thread, I didn’t know that you could get a mortgage with less than 5% deposit and no guarantors,...

Exactly. It’s not going to go back to what it was. The Tories couldn’t be arsed to reverse the changes they made and Labour (who are using ‘tax avoiders’ as a bottomless well of savings like the Tories do with ‘public sector efficiencies’ and ‘benefit reforms’) will tighten it further...Last edited by sreed; 10 April 2024, 10:40.

FWIW I think it’s a good product for those FTBs who can’t (or don’t want to) put in a bigger deposit. The more products there are in the market, the more choice borrowers have.
There seem to plenty of guardrails to minimise the chances of negative equity - no new build, no flats,...

If you are able to move to the US, I’m sure there’s the potential to earn a lot more than in the UK. I’ve no idea how easy it is to get a visa. From my younger days, I know of a couple of ex-colleagues who emigrated to Canada and then used that as a bridge to move to the US after getting a Canadian...

I think that’s a bit too black and white. What you’ve said might be true for some sectors/roles, and generally speaking the current situation might be worse than what it was in the past few years, but there are decently paid contracts out there. At the risk of sounding immodest, even as a generalist...

Earlier this week I was chatting with a Polish sub-contractor firm that is doing most of the dev work on a data project. He said that their boss-man is big on AI and all his devs have all been made to use github copilot to write code since late last year. Since then apparently his devs are able to deliver...

I currently have a ringside view of my client (mid sized FS firm) trying to hire a PM on an 18 month PAYE FTC. The pay budget (not disclosed on the listing) was pretty good at 90-110k. An FTC because they have a freeze on permie hiring so need to get around that.
The dept head spent quite...Last edited by sreed; 3 April 2024, 09:58.
