Lets face it. Most of the time the substitution clause in a contract is only there to try and make it more IR35 proof, and probably of dubious value.

Yup. An agent offerd the prospect of a plain Java dev role to me today, and I said no for the same reason. If a role isn't going to put me in the driving seat with AI, it isn't going to exist in the near future.
I think as a contractor you have 2 choices, stay on the cutting edge, or do...

Is it really even ours though ? I think we need a launch code from the yanks if we want to set one off....

I think they are still going, might have had a bit of a name change *checks emails* - CMME Mortgages now.
hey sorted out the last few mortgages I had, and renewals. They were also very on the ball when interest rates went up and got in touch well in advance and got everything arranged so...

Obviously defence is necessary, but I don't know why people are worried about it. Russia can't even take over half of Ukraine, yet politicians are talking like they might be about to invade Europe. I somehow think that might be the defence industry talking through their puppets. And even if we did have...

Rates are all over the place. I still see plenty roles, outside with decent rates, maybe not as high as they used to be.
Just had someone phone me about an "urgent" solution architect role, for a big financial company. Inside @ 400/day ! I just said, thats a joke forget it. I'm...

Do you think your response even goes to a human ? Could just be AI on the other end ?
I actually got an interview through LI about a month ago, the thing that made it real is that the agent called me and she was serious and professional and in the UK. But that was the exception, all other...

Azure Certification - Worth it ?
I have AWS Certifications and I would say one a couple of occasions they got me the job - particularly where a certified person was needed to qualify for some discount or other AWS accreditations on a project. But I also found the training material to be reasonably interesting and I learned a lot through...

Just had an agent tell me I can't apply because I don't hold active SC. I sort of think fair enough, it de-risks things for the client since if they have an active SC they can be pretty sure of getting either a transfer, or the candidate succesfully passing a re-vetting.
I tried to argue...

Started looking in earnest for a new contract now. Getting about 3 or 4 agents a day calling me. Its like the dotcom era or something. The market is tight, but its not dead.

I think you just honestly answer the actual questions they ask. Convictions ? No. No question about arrests or police contact so no answer needed.

Similarly, adjusting the tax code doesn't sound like a simple way to deal with the issue.
Also, what does it matter ? Tax on self assessed income arrives 6 to 12 months after it was earned, but that is a pipeline in motion. Changing the rules might pull tax forward by 6 months, but its...

Right. But even Warren Buffet is on at least 40% cash right now.
The other 60% is in those other diversifiers.
But my point is, its my choice, not Rachel Reeves. The governments agenda is not to make me better off, its to make the government better off.
If we just...Last edited by willendure; 2 July 2026, 11:54.

That is essentially what I am trying to say. You need to navigate the same process sure, but having to get your CV past AI to even have a chance of being seen by a human is a hard constraint to satisfy. Because if it isn't a perfect match, it won't come out ahead of the other 1000 cvs they got sent...
