Just went up the road and posted my xmouse cards. Just neighbours left to do. That tiny spider still dangling over me monitor, ~2mm. Maybe he wants a Christmas present.

Uneventful drives to and from Mum's.

Found out I'd missed a bill after my Dad died and her Southern Water account is still in his name. So now I'm having to sort that out three years after the event. I could have sworn I dealt with it but hey ho.

Must make the bed before it gets too late. Laundry can wait until tomorrow.

The old freezer had got a bit colder because of all the cold stuff, and the fridge-freezer continued to cool down rapidly, so I brought all the food back when they were both at around -13°C

It seems as if there’s more room in there now, but I think it’s just because I stacked stuff differently so the free space that was spread around is now mostly in the same place

And to go along with this, the traditional Sunday afternoon Time Team in which they’re digging up a load of back gardens in Ipswich looking for a Roman villa

The freezer is already down to -2.7°C, which is much lower than I expected it to have managed in a couple of hours

Freezer defrosted!

The drawers have been washed and dried and reinserted, the fridge-freezer as a whole has been turned back on (because it’s all or nothing), and the SuperFreeze™ button engaged

It’ll be interesting to see how long it takes to get down to a point where it makes sense to transfer the stuff back from the other freezer

I was pleased to see that the fridge part hadn’t warmed up very much at all - it’s still at an acceptable temperature, so my sausages etc. are safe

Today’s big adventure is defrosting the freezer. It hasn’t got that icy in there over the three years I’ve been here, but it had built up to the point where it was starting to feel like Something Should Be Done. Then, the other day, it turned out one of the drawers hadn’t gone all the way back in because of ice, which in turn meant the door wasn’t quite closed. It was only a tiny gap but it had the unfortunate effect of somehow making the ice grow, making it even harder to get the drawer back in properly when I discovered what had happened. A good hard shove did the trick, but I can’t be bothered doing that every time, so I’ve turned it off, opened the door, and placed bowls of hot water within to help the thawing process along

The old freezer hasn’t yet been disposed of, but struggles to get any of its shelves below -10°C nowadays. But it’s able to serve as a temporary repository for the frozen stuff, because that’s better than leaving it all out at room temperature

Sunny with high level wisps hanging about. Currently 8 degrees ('feels like' 6) with a high of 11 expected. Barometer down to 1022 mBar.

Bed stripped and airing. The bedroom window is open a crack for extra airing. Laundering will commence when I get home from Mum's.

Morning denizens

Rather a grey and windy day, and expected to continue so. It’s 8°C, though that “feels like” 0°, and will only get as high as 10°. The barometers are heading back down again at 1004/1012mB

Looking ahead at the 10-day forecast, it appears that the weather in the buildup to Christmas Eve will continue in much the same vein, though with the added likelihood (65%-90%) of rain on six of those days and the possibility (unquantified) of sunny spells on just one of them

Anyway, it’s Sunday and I don’t have ClientGov work on Monday, so that’s enough reason to be reasonably content
