They are generally, as LM says, large and brightly coloured so long as boyo is looking outside and not scribbling on his kneeboard before replying, tuning the radio, staring at the magenta line on a screen somewhere on the cockpit or changing tanks. Plus the aircraft in question has tulip visibility...
