Tonight's major motion picture premiere was Kimi (2022) in which an agoraphobic young woman works from home, addressing problems and errors in voice interpretation by Kimi, one of those home assistant gizmos like Alexa or Siri. But when she hears what appears to be a murder on one of the device streams, she's forced to go outside in search of justice. A very decent thriller, I thought, and not too unrealistic on the technical aspects. Also, having been made just after the height of the pandemic, it was noteworthy for featuring aspects thereof such as many people wearing facemasks in the city streets, and made direct reference to lockdown having exacerbated her condition. Worth a watch

    Goodnight all

      Morning all
      TFIF, etc.
CBS, etc, although there's signs that we had a little precipitation overnight. Pleasantly long walk of about 8km to start the day.
The Wife is going for an injection today of some new product that may help her knee. Half day not billing for me.

        Morning all, local time 1048

The sunshine continues unabated with some cloud hanging about. Currently 23 degrees ('feels like' 25) with a high of 26 expected. Barometer up to 1019 mBar.

        Sunrise 05:31; Sunset 21:01 EEST

Contrary to expectations, we will be walking the 10 mins to our next hotel. We had wanted to have three nights in the nicer location but prices were very high for Thursday night, so we opted to stay put in the one that HWMBO's client is paying for.

Not working today. We will be going to see the heaviest building in the world (maybe) and try to find some postcards to send.

          Morning.

          Friday.

          Damp.

          Wanly sunny.

          Blue sky in parts.

Cool in here at 19.5 deg, 20 in the kitchen, 18 in the leanto.

1011.5 mBar, 29.869 in Hg, 758.687 Torr, 14.67 psi, (up from 1006 last night), 67% RH (Lidl electric: lot of water in the dehumidifier after yesterday's use thereof).

Meanwhile on the 23rd of January 2020 NF forgot to turn the WM on & was surprised to find it hadn't finished, once turned on it did finish, LM was avoiding an OU essay by watching some Marvel thing, BR14 popped out for dinner, and I watched more Indiana Jones interspersed with a thing about Concorde in Gaelic with subtitles.

Freecell score: 82%, running average: 82%.

          Lunch: brunch.

Entertainment: thing about a Chinese girl who was kidnapped 25 years ago, then adopted by a Septic.

Thing about datacentre power consumption: got to keep on feeding Skynet after all.

More potching in the garage: the hinges fitted to the toolbox. Even works. Can't get over it. . And more firkling bits of conduit to fit some CFD lamps in there.

          Tea: soup etc.

Entertainment: PM. STOS S1 E28 "City on the Edge of Forever". Nice runes.

          UFO bollox on Blaze.

Dead Ringers on R4. Not in the mood for that.

          Book.

Various news channels to view the ongoing fireworks. .

Dalgliesh S1 E5&6: the inferior 5 version rather than the Roy Marsden version of yore.

Thing on PBS about "The savage peace" after WWII. Not a good time to be a German.

"The Hunted (1995)" with Chrisopher Lambert: made a change from Highlander I suppose. But not much of one. Lots of swords.

The sound of distant thunder. Oh good. Just what we need.

            Morning denizens

It's one of those days when there's quite a lot of clouds about but they're quite thin, so it's bright and sunny anyway. It's also very windy, with the trees all a-shimmy. And it's warm enough to apparently overcome the wind chill factor: the current 19°C only "feels like" 17°. It's expected to get all the way to 24° this afternoon, which seems a little excessive, though there's a 10% chance of showers in the evening which might help cool things down again. The barometers are up again at 1006/1014mB

Getting the unadjusted barometric pressure there was slightly inconvenient as my phone, which had updated itself overnight, informed me that the app I wrote to display that "is no longer available". It also turned out I hadn't copied the source code over from the previous laptop. So I had to clone it from GitHub, and it turned out it built OK and immediately deployed to my phone where it ran just fine! I checked the dates and it was four years ago this month that I last modified it, so I'm pleased it still worked

Lunch: leftover pork cutlet in a wholemeal bap with apple sauce

The bap was from Sainsbury's, but I reckon making my own is on the agenda. I gather the process would be to use the breadmaker to knead the dough, let it rise, then bake them in the oven. Once I've mastered the art of making them as well as white baps and finger rolls, Sainsbury's will regret discontinuing the in-store bakery 800g plain wholemeal loaf

Though I suspect they're planning to shut down their in-store bakeries the way they did with deli counters and butchers, and have been doing recently with the hot food counters

Tea has been roast chicken thighs seasoned with ras el hanout, accompanied by spicy chunks of roast potato; and, of course, ketchup. A bit of a random experiment, but it turned out very tasty

To go with it, I watched the second half of the episode of Trucking Hell I started watching last week

Much excitement down on the lawn when a large gull circled round a few times and landed, close to where a couple of the young magpies were ditzing around and much to their consternation - I doubt they've ever seen a bird that big so close before!

They made themselves scarce and the gull wandered around for a minute or two. It's very unusual to see a gull down there; they usually stay over on the park. But then another circled round a few times and also landed! This, however, seemed unacceptable to the first gull, which went flapping over chasing it until it flew away. After that, the first one looked around a bit and then also departed.

The young magpies are still keeping a low profile at the moment, possibly wondering if it'll come back
