While I’ve been away I’ve been learning the ancient art of book binding. I was shocked at the cost of good watercolour sketchbooks and can now make one at a quarter of the price.

I used to do a bit of bookbinding in my teens. One year at school, everybody (well, everybody who did Latin and the Latin teachers) had a textbook of Latin poetry from a really badly bound batch; they were paperbacks, and the glue fell to bits and everybody finished up with a cover and loose signatures. My Latin teacher was dumbfounded when I pulled out my copy, rebound in hardback with the title and author names on the cover printed on my Adana 8-5 platen

I got a book about it, complete with a kit of bookbinding tools, in a Kickstarter by London Book Arts the other year, but haven't got around to trying it again. I shall have to give it a go

Have you ever fired a shotgun, while not holding it correctly and you get the full recall into your shoulder/chest?

That’s what my chest feels like this morning.

For those who like the details, they removed an oval shape 4x2cm and about 1cm deep.

The neck bit feels fine today, but the one on my back seeped a little overnight.

In other news, client hasn’t signed my contract yet, so I’m watching rugby.
