Dear me. Not only that but it looks like they put the head of HR in charge of IT, rather than the other way around!

My current contract has HR involvement, in that I am required to give updates to an HR team on a monthly basis. So once a month I must involve people that have absoluately no idea about the project, or any day to day involvement with it. They do this with all the contractors and some internal manager also. What basically happens is that they get feedback from everyone - positive and negative. They ignore the positive as they are solely focussed on any negative to "resolve issues" or "head off developing problems". So now mountains are made from mole hills on the basis of chinese whispers. Then the HR people dish out accusations of poor perforamance and whip up a round of witch hunts, setting up review meeting between contractors and managers to "work out how to resolve things".

This is why I loved being a contractor because you can just ignore all the HR nonsense and this is really the first time in my entire career I have been caught up in it. I also realized that they are not going to fire me, so I just give them back as good as they dish out. I'm 50 and some snotty brat from HR who is literally half my age and has the IQ of a melon is trying to tell me how to do a better job!

I think I read that 90% of HR is work that could easily be automated by AI. Probably the head of HR is sleeping with someone and has manouvered themselves into taking over IT for fear of losing their own jobs. Parasites and killing productivity in many businesses.

Used to be - and not that long ago - that IT was under the Finance department.

Wonder how long it would be before AI replaces the government. We will have to vote for ChatGPT, Gemini etc. Hmm, probably wouldn't be any worse.

You do realise that HR stands for Human Remains...?

Dealt with them for many years in many companies with my interim manager hat on. With very few exceptions, they are in HR because they can't hack any kind of production work.

When the government minister for IT has zero experience of and knows nothing about IT what can we expect? I suppose these companies are just jumping on the bandwagon of ignorance and assuming that AI is about intelligence rather than being artificial!

I would suggest making a DSAR under GDPR, your request can include all data including notes and opinions about you.

It looks like this only affects the C-suite. I don't think that having the HR Manager and IT Manager reporting to the same director is inherently bad; I've worked in small companies where they'd both report to the company owner. For that matter, any of us who do contracts outside IR35 probably have the same person in charge of IT and HR

                  Reminds me of
Q: "Why does the HR department exist"
A: "To ensure that IT isn't bottom of the pile"

One of the real advantages of being a contractor was not having to deal with the Human Remains function. No reviews, objectives, pointless management courses etc.
Simple transactional meritocracy: do a good job, get more work; do a bad job, get booted.

I think they just haven't got anything better to do than stir up tulip. They probably think they are on some kind of reality tv show.
