Ever since we lost the British empire we've been fecked, a drawn out and innevitable process of decline. Easy to blame it on the current government, but they've only been in office for a handful of months. No, they do not have a solution to the decline, and nor do any of the others really. National debt is way too high, and at some point over the next decase that is going to matter. We are headed down a similar path to Japan, except their national debt is almost entirely owed domestically, which is not the case for the UK. So... join the Euro... hide gold sovereigns under your mattress? Buy bitcoins? I really don't know. I fully expect that by the time gen X retire in this country our standard of living and solvency will be something similar to Greece.
The main thing wrong with Labour in my view is their sanctimonious attitude, we could do without that kind of irritation, things are bad enough as they are. At least it will still rain plenty in the UK as the rest of world turns to desert as temps rise over 3 degrees above the baseline...Last edited by willendure; 27 October 2024, 11:14.Comment

Thing is, everyone is complaining about higher taxes, but that's what happens if you want better services.
For context, the UK tax burden is around 34% and rising to 38% within 5 years. In France is 46% and had been for a long time.
You can see however, how much better things are there with infrastructure such as trains.
It's not perfect, but it's not crumbling.
Yes, tax income needs to be spent efficiently but you don't get European standard services on US levels of tax.
While many of the Telegraph and Mail readers will look back fondly to the tax cuts of the 80's, these were funded from a one off bonanza - North Sea oil. This is never coming back and was frittered away by the Tories.
The more enlightened nations such as the Scandis set up sovereign wealth fund with their bonus and continue to reap the rewards of that wisdom today.
To those who might leave the UK, I say bon voyage! We need people like you to help balance the net migration figures. Go for it.Comment
