We need a statistic that defines a real asylum seeker and an economic migrant. We won't ever be able to get an accurate real picture but that should form the basis of our policy. True asylum yes, boat loads of econominc migrants claiming asylum no.

I bet most economic migrants would benefit the country far more than many of our own (working age) citizens. At least they want to work, and are even happy to do jobs that no Brits will do.

Shame we can't do an exchange programme.

Brits don't want to do them because the wage is being suppressed by...

End of the day, we can't kick out Brits who are willingly or otherwise not pulling their weight economically. That doesn't excuse importing more people who are a net drain on the economy.

Not doable I'm afraid, very often they have no documents on them (if you are fleeing a war torn country, this is possible of course), so it's all based on what they say. It's tulipe as you are mixing families who are truly running away from the horrors of war and most likely survived a horrible journey with young men who are effectively "just" economic migrants.

I can't see how it will change. We are not going to see lots of migrants returned home or to a third safe country. We arent going to turn the boats around even if we could do it safetly. We have people causing an uproar over painted welcome signs.

It's pretty easy to work here illegally in low skilled, low paid jobs which is probably one of the main draws, along with the language etc.

When you get lots of young men, often uneducated and low status it's not a good thing for society.

Abolish cash is the first step, then analyse the flow of money, it would work against fraud & drugs as well. I sort of assumed that was why it was a government policy.

But before you do that you need an exit strategy for all the wrong uns we will discover. Welcome Rwanda.

Can we stop this racist crap about Brits not wanting to work, I trip over lots of brits riding bikes delivering takeaways in the rain. They just don't want to work for rubbish wages - who can blame them? I don't work for below minimum wage in an abusive market why should anyone else?

As was proven by the pick veg for the country project during covid most farmers abuse the cost of accommodation to get foreign workers below minimum wage.

Remember mainly only people paying higher rate tax are contributing more than they take out on average. Thousands of UBER drivers or Just Eat riders are probably a drain on the countries resources.

Plenty of people get dead end jobs and live lives of quiet desperation, soon those jobs won't be available due to automation & AI so we need to train them for the next tier up.

There are people on benefits who could work but when they do the figures benefits definitely pay better. I recently watched "the great benefits giveaway" and every family in it given the right incentive wanted to get off benefits. One couple retrained as a lorry driver & food van owner, then a party organiser, another a cleaner & market trader nothing massive but all they needed was support. The job centre seem to be a chocolate fireguard.

How do you know they're brits? Do you check their passports?

Down with racism. Long live miscegenation!

Its pretty easy to work out the origin of people from their dress, accent, features etc.

It sounds like you're talking about their ancestral ethnic origins, rather than their actual nationality. In other words, judging a book by its cover. But please, do elaborate.

But you can never be sure, so best not to assume. That swarthy skinned gentleman with an Indian accent might well have an British passport.

Certainly round here, you'd never figure out from my accent that I'm Swiss.
