Probably similar to the US trying to control the Mexican border, it simply doesn't work. They drop small inflatables in the middle of the night in random locations, you simply haven't got that many people in the border patrols to cover the whole stretch of the shore. And the ones in the water already are a massive headache in terms of what to do with them, turn them back, rescue etc. France could potentially stop some migrants but then you have a ticking bomb on your hands, what the hell do you do with them? lock them in a camp? keep them in France? send them somewhere and if so where?

It's also against international law to do what the Greek coastguard have recently been alleged to have done.

Actually making an ounce of effort on the French side would go a long way to by should they? They don't give a flying monkies despite the sums paid to them.

Well, it's not the entire coastline. There are only about 30 miles of it where there's any chance of crossing the Channel in a small boat.

Another key draw is the 'informal economy' i.e. cash in hand, making this bank transfer only and paying cash as wages illegal would go a long way to solving this. As with poor regulation of rentals which could be solved by a deposit scheme that included government input declaring the renter permitted to rent in the uk. Same with GP & Schools.

A group of primary school children left feeling ‘ashamed of their country’ after murals were painted over at an asylum centre in Kent have sent hand-drawn pictures to the young refugees housed there instead.
Two classes of pupils, aged between eight and nine, at St Gerard’s Catholic Primary School in Birmingham, have gathered about 100 hand-drawn pictures to send to children at the Kent Intake Centre.

The drawings were sent on Friday before the school broke up for the summer holidays, with some pictures also being sent directly to immigration minister Robert Jenrick.

It comes after Mr Jenrick said the murals, which included images of Mickey Mouse and other Disney characters, were not ‘age appropriate’ for the majority of young people staying there – but reports claimed he had felt they were ‘too welcoming’.
