Penny doing so the least convincingly in the latest YouGov poll (IIRC), but those poll results, as with the results from CH, are exceptionally volatile and subject to complete reversal over a six week campaign (or even within 6 hours ).

If it's Rishi then we're in for a horrible combination of big state government and matching taxation until he achieves a reduction in government debt, which is already is a better state than many G20 countries. If it's Truss then perhaps a return to small state Conservatism but having to fight the Remainers every step of the way, so business as usual. If it Mordaunt, then we're doomed, she'll be another Boris without the sense of humour.

I fail to understand this passion for a Labour government. Yes the Tories have been a bit of a mess (actually quite a lot of a mess), but largely over the little things (Boris's idiocy excepted, of course). However Labour haven't come up with a single idea about how they want to take the country forward for ages, and have even now reversed their one clear objective of closer ties with the EU market. If Labour join the Lib Dems then it would be last sensible election we ever get. If they go with the SNP then bye bye to the Union; even if they lose any referendum the SNP will never assist the rest of the UK in anything.

I have no idea how the next GE will pan out, but I am a long way from convinced that whatever happens will be good news. We really don't have strong enough people at the top of the tree, in any party.

wasn't there major shennans for Bojo to keep someone off the final members ballot? It's all very shifty no doubt, and I'm sure Liz has benefited from a few borrowed votes here..

I want NHS funding and humane treatment of refugees, for a start. More progressive taxation and a more serious committment to action on climate change. Go and look at the waiting lists for the NHS for the last 30 years - they come down under Labout and shoot straight back up when the Tories get back into power. They are trying to kill it, and with one more term they might just succeed. Worth pointing out also that the idea that the Tories are better custodians of the economy is not borne out by any examination of the facts.

But they've only had 12 years of blaming others, you need to give them another x years to start to see improvements.
Each election, each broadcast, they make promises, then ignore them, and yet still the loyal fans say "give them another try, maybe with a bit of luck they'll do a better job next time"
At some point you have to say no. You have to try something different than the party that has been in power for over a decade.

Possibly true. But Labour's record in every government they've held is one of dismal failure. They may produce a miracle, but with Starmer as their dynamic figurehead the signs aren't hopeful.

Better perhaps to hope for Rishi because a socialist economic policy is what he's selling.

Please expand. I don't believe this is true at all.

Oh they always do dirty tricks.

According to polling Rishi! loses against Penny Splash or Truss.

So the Ready4Rish! team have to work out which one to go up against.

They have idiot ministers who leave jokes like "we:ve spent all the money" and unfortunately it's found to be true in that department.

The problem with our democracy since Thatcher is political parties are in power too long. They end up destroying the good work they have previously done. This means the pendulum has swung too far by the time the opposition get back in power.

Right. However, Boris had a lot to play with. Anyone engaging in vote lending now is very brave given the differences between the top three.

I’ve pretty much lost interest. Sunak would be an ongoing disaster, Truss would lose the next GE handsomely and Mordaunt? Who knows what the feck she thinks - I don’t think she knows herself. There’s probably only one winner here, Labour.
