I'm tempted to agree. They're neither of them people to set the world on fire, but the membership will look at Sunak's various vanishing acts at times of crises and his key role in binning Boris and set that against a charisma-free zone who stuck to her post and the government to the very end. And if either of them do the tax and VAT reduction trick this year, then that will carry a lot of weight into the next election, whenever that is, but only one candidate has promised to do that.

If you're into twitter, have a look for some of the stuff being levelled at Sunak on there about what he did to BoJo, who the vocal tory membership on Twitter still overwhelmingly want as PM. Possibly the only smart thing Truss ever did was not to resign from BoJo's cabinet as the Tory faithful see her as loyal. Maybe they've not seen the video of her calling for the abolition of the Monarchy when she was a LibDem. She also had to delete her first tweet seconds after being voted into the final two, when she promised to 'hit the ground on day 1'. The tories are now (hopefully) f***ed.

Since the voters in this particular election are largely over 60, small 'c' conservative, involved newspaper readers, I don't think the Twitterati will have much of an impact on the outcome.

Incidentally, Truss was a LD when she was 19 at Oxford and had moved over to the Tories before she left there.

I wouldn't underestimate the ability of Truss to supernova.

Yeah, probably after she announces that the UK is signing a major trade deal with Susan from Basingstoke who sells marmalade on EBay.

Those poor blokes, will be so confused .... vote for a Hindu man or vote for a woman .... I wouldn't be surprised if there are lots of spoiled ballots with their hero 'Boris' written on them

The fact that the Conservative party has had 2 women as its leader, one of which was undoubtedly the best Prime Minister in our lifetime should lay your doubts to rest. How does Her Majesty's Official Opposition's record stand with regards to women leaders?

My understanding is that the party membership are not happy at the way the resignation was forced and how the leadership contest has been conducted. They're looking for a ballot to determine whether the party members accept the resignation of the person they voted into office.
