Me either. This was is Putin's responsibility - not NATO, not the US, not Boris, not capitalism. Anyone who thinks otherwise is deluded.

In your childish black and white world, is there any concept of proximate responsibility (Putin) vs ultimate responsibility (largely the US, arguably)?Originally posted by NotAllThere View PostMe either. On another note, I see Iran is joining Russia in offering to sell oil in local gold-backed currency, and India sounds keen to take them up on the offer:
2022-04-08 After Russia, Iran to sell oil in its local currency instead of US dollars
The US won't be at all pleased with India if they go ahead, and if trade sanctions are imposed on India then Boris can kiss goodbye to his trade deal with them and we might have less competition from Indian IT workers.

Everything is arguable. You can argue that black is white and get yourself killed on the next zebra crossing. But you're still deluded. Your revolting argument is equivalent to "But he made me do it". Pathetic.Originally posted by OwlHoot View Post

Proximate and Ultimate responsibility - that's Putin. NATO and the US are only responsible inasmuch as they didn't kow-tow to a nasty little KGB thug. You've been paying too much heed to the fecal spoutings of the likes of Jeremy Corbyn.Down with racism. Long live miscegenation!Comment

Some situations are shades of grey, others are not. Launching a mass invasion of a country who has not attacked you or done anything except make you feel a bit uneasy is hard to argue as the former. Especially when the attacker is 3X the population, 10X the GDP, and extra specially hen the attacker cannot be viewed to be pursuing a tactical offensive but is predominantly focusing their efforts on residential areas.Originally posted by OwlHoot View Post
In your childish black and white world
If I see you looking at me and muttering to your mate from across the pub, I might feel uneasy. But it's black and white who's in the wrong if I follow you to the loo and attack you by surprise "to protect myself".
You seem like someone who would argue how the blame between rapist and victim should be split based on how she was dressed. Since a black and white view of the world is 'childish'...Originally posted by MaryPoppinsI'd still not breastfeed a naziOriginally posted by vetranUrine is quite nourishingComment

It's clear Putin has had designs on "taking back" Ukraine for a very long time. It was probably always a matter of when, not if.
Notice he didn't sell the SMO to the Russian public just on the strength of the threat/provocation posed by NATO and the West. In fact, the justification spoke more to a base hatred of Ukrainians ("nazis"). The Russian state controlled media had been demonising Ukraine for years, sowing the seeds for a military offensive.
However, I do wonder if the "why now in particular?" has something to do with his health.Last edited by DealorNoDeal; 19 April 2022, 10:49.Scoots still says that Apr 2020 didn't mark the start of a new stock bull market.Comment

In 2018 the Ukrainians declined to renew the Russian-Ukrainian Friendship treaty, originally signed in 1997Originally posted by DealorNoDeal View PostIt's clear Putin has had designs on "taking back" Ukraine for a very long time. It was probably always a matter of when, not if.
According to that Wikipedia article, they claimed the reasons were the Russian annexation of Crimea in 2014 and Russian support for separatists in Ukraine's Donbass reason, and they were supported in their decision by "Western allies within the UN security council".
The separatists' various grievances against the Ukrainian government are described here. Some sound justified, others not so much.
As many in Ukraine's Azov battalion apparently wore the same insignia as members of the Nazi SS Das Reich division (practically the worst of the lot, in the Waffen SS anyway), it's a fairly safe bet that they might not always have been on their best behaviour with Donbas separatists!
We've all heard the rumours about Putin having thyroid cancer, and I heard he'd had brain surgery, but who knows for sure? However, I do wonder if the "why now in particular?" has something to do with his health.Last edited by OwlHoot; 19 April 2022, 12:11.Work in the public sector? No, but if a situation is obviously changing and developing and more of my mates are joining me and giving you funny looks and exchanging conspiratorial nods between ourselves, and we and you are all gangsters, then maybe it would be in your interests to try and clobber me alone in the loo if the opportunity arose. Have to confess though, I'm not an expert on gangster etiquette in such matters. But I think in prison a preemptive strike in a hostile situation like that would be a legitimate and expected way to preserve respect and so defend yourself.Originally posted by d000hg View PostIf I see you looking at me and muttering to your mate from across the pub, I might feel uneasy. Nope, there's a world of a difference between a crime being made more likely by circumstances, as a statement of fact based on past crime statistics (of dress and sobriety in your example), vs. condoning it or absolving the perp even partly from blame. You seem like someone who would argue how the blame between rapist and victim should be split based on how she was dressed.
