You want Ukraine to surrender like France did, in order to minimise your suffering from higher cost of petrol and especially diesel? Well that's not happening whether you like it or not.

If you notice, I gave three reasons, and the petrol/diesel price aspect was a tiny part of reason (b) although with all kinds of knock on effects.

The Western world .. can surely manage few months of active fighting far away to destroy Russian land army - after that there will be big peace dividend in form of China deciding to wait 30-40 more years before they try to invade Taiwan.

There is that, granted, although it would have been better if US neocons hadn't been needling Russia for years so we could have been practically allies against China. Only twenty years ago Putin was toying with the idea of Russia itself joining NATO, because don't forget the Russians and Chinese also have a long-running border dispute and the Chinese are a growing threat to everyone.

Not really, because everyone, including China and especially Russia, will be carefully analysing what military hardware and organisation works and what needs beefing up or updating. So in a few years their armed forces will be more effective than ever! Like most things only maintained with constant effort and expense, the best way to degrade armed forces long term is simply not to use them in earnest, nor provoke your adversaries to use theirs if it can be avoided, but if they are regularly put to use they are more likely to stay in tip-top condition.
