You might find that a lot of those are probate cases. Some might be long-term probate cases, and some of those might be because of the council tax exemption. Some might even be homes owned by foreigners who haven't been able to use them due to the pandemic. I'm not sure there's a justification for confiscating all 238k empty houses in the UK.

This was a great marketing effort which certainly had nothing to do with Putins money, but I always thought it embelished the image of what Russia and Putin specifically was.

I thought Priti Awful was only letting in 100K and as a lot will be children with their mothers we don't need that many homes.

I don't believe his post was about "confiscating" empty houses, but more of a response to the standard Wail of "Go home, we're full"

I alos suspect that reported figure in Big Issue is under reported, since the government data for England alone says
            • There were 468,000 dwellings recorded as empty for the purposes of council tax as of 13 September 2021. Of these, 72,000 were being charged a premium.
The piece about probate may have some bearing on the figures, but since the government consider a house empty if it has no occupants and is substantially unfurnished, then that would rule out most probate. The relatives tend not to sell everything off, or divvy it up, until probate has been settled.

Anyway I've decided to take one for the country, I've emailed PP and told her that all the gorgeous blond women can stay with me, I'm sure we can all squeeze in.

At what point did I say we should confiscate them all? And how likely is "might"?

If just 20% of those are empty and could be made available for use that's 46,000+ properties that could be made available to house people in need. Even is they were all 1 bedroom flats that's still tens of thousands of people who could be housed.

So has anyone booked a flight to Ukraine yet? Liz Truss encourages you to accept Zelensky's invitation to come and fight the invading Russians. Sounds like a wonderful chance for anyone who always dreamed of acting out their COD skills to go and shoot real people.

Was away a couple of days, not sure why we're arguing about council tax on 2nd homes now?

They should seize all the mansions owned by Russians, with affiliations to Putin, and let the refugees go live in them!
