The Official Car Rant: F**k Mercedes Roadside Assistance *****rs
This is all part of the Mercedes exclusivity , high repair costs are there to scare the riff raff & cheap skates away from owning one
And I paying it - original Merc parts, but done by specialist who does all repairs, MOT and servicing - it’s completely illegal to force use dealer network for warranties, but somehow these fookers think it’s ok to do it do for roadside assistance when people who call are going to be in deep tulip on side of a road - great time to punish them for not using dealer for last service! Not.
Funny coincidence as I discovered just yesterday that many modern cars don't have spare wheels when I checked to see if the 2015 van I brought a couple of months ago had one. Does fortunately.
Thats why specialists are not that much cheaper than the dealer (for most jobs), you still get ripped off on parts.
Yeah labour is cheaper but still the saving isnt as big as i thought.
When my merc was 3.5 years old the aux battery failed, the dealer said it was £120 but they charged me £30 (including labour) because the car was recently out of warranty and i had always serviced it with them. They were not being charitable, the aux battery probably only costs them £30.
If i had taken it to a specialist, the specialist would have charged me £120 + labour as they would have bought the part full price from the Merc dealer with full mark up applied.

Parts cost is fixed, but dealers got big incentive to rip you off doing things not needed or just lacking expertise to fix efficiently complex issues, especially if car is expensive (like AMG models).
