but I've never overextended myself. seen too many people do that over the years, having to downsize urgently when there's a downturn, sell flash motors etc.
I prefer the quiet, non flashy, lifestyle

Me too - Mr Dull here, but it works for me in terms of financial security for me & the family. I still admire flashy cars though, and may one day buy myself an older Aston Martin as a treat / money pit

I have heard it called the White Collar recession and it certainly isn't just Developers. Funnily enough a guy from New Zealand popped up in my LI timeline this morning and it sounds as bad out there as well.
