But then he would say this but then on the other hand it's interesting that he is against Heathrow 3rd runway, which you would think would be bring jobs and growth to umm London, maybe not in the bit he likes - hey ho

You keep quoting people who have a vested interest, no tulip that he wants people to return to office considering 90% of places around offices rely on office workers for sales. If that's gone, then the business will soon follow, this is really a no brainer. Has nothing to do whether wfh is efficient or not, whether hybrid is better etc. it's all about the business model which relies of office workers.

What is anyone's views on FTC?

I've never done one as it seems like the least good option it is not day rate and not perm so seems like worst of the lot...though better than nothing?

I asked about the possibility of going perm and they said not an option as the person is going to work on another project and will return to the job, they will still be in the building/business

I think that could be tricky too if they are still around too as it is their role that they will pick up again...this is just cover for a period.

        Thoughts/advice re FTC's?

Never done one and never wanted to or needed to. But in this market I would certainly consider it. You say it won't lead to a permie role but things change all the time. So it may lead to other things. Certainly don't see any downsides to doing it.

Ok, so yes, it was freezing cold and it was raining but there did seem to be lot less people out. Even the place I went to used to have queues outside as seem to have diminished.
I was out in central London on Thursday night. Seemed busy but not rammed, unlike Cambridge on Saturday which was absolutely heaving everywhere.

The Cambridge tech scene is really on the up. Arm are opening a new huge building and Amazon, Apple and Microsoft amongst many others are recruiting quite a lot of AI/ML roles.

I wouldn't be surprised if Cambridge overtakes London in the next few years for AI/ML research. Unfortunately the majority of these roles are not for the likes of most of us on here.

I used to think the same, worst of both worlds so avoided them. However, in the current market, beggars can't be choosers.

Find out exactly what else, if anything, you might get apart from the salary and holidays. A friend of mine got a FTC role and he ended up getting quite a hefty annual bonus.

What else have you got as a possibility? it's a job and it pays, so I'd take it and see what happens.

I started a 6 month FTC lastonth. Not ideal but it's a 6 figure salary, 15% pension, bonus, 30 days holiday pro rata plus bank holidays and mostly WFH. Thought it would be better than sitting on the bench for 6 months anyway. Hopefully things will have picked up by the summer but if they offered to make it perm I think I might take it.

Smoggy that sounds great, this one is nowhere near as well paid as yours, no bonus etc but it is work and earning a crust ....CV gone forward but not getting hopes up...I used to think FTC's were the worst of both worlds but needs must...see if i get an interview...
