No To Retro Tax – Campaign Against Section 58 Finance Act 2008
Not sure if this has been posted before but just seen this in an excerpt from the Times –
Katie Melua has confessed that she was financially “clueless and inexperienced” when she invested £850,000 in a massive tax avoidance scheme alongside Sir Michael Caine and the musician Gary Barlow.
The Times revealed this week that the singer joined the secretive Liberty tax scheme in the same year that she publicly extolled the virtues of paying tax.
More than 1,600 wealthy investors, including Anne Robinson, George Michael, all four current members of the band Arctic Monkeys, and a loan shark convicted of rape, attempted to shelter £1.2 billion through Liberty. The legal tax scheme has been under HMRC
What relevance does this have apart from the press’s attempt to change public perception, this is utterly outrageous

There was one word in that article I was quite impressed by. Unfortunately it got drowned out by the loan shark/rapist angle. Not that Parliament doesn't shelter paedophiles, that story seems to have been quietly forgotten about too!
'Orwell's 1984 was supposed to be a warning, not an instruction manual'. - Nick Pickles, director of Big Brother Watch.
Tried to get onto the HMRC Press site this morning the site is down.
Maybe they need some good IT contractors to sort out their issues, I believe there could be a number looking for work it the next few months due to bankruptcy
Bu$$er they won’t be eligible, of course this could be HMRC’s cunning plan to employ them, under PAYE of course or maybe this is how they plan to implement a time to pay scheme
