It's funny how there are far fewer disabled spaces in car parks where you have to pay, especially if they're council run. Do they pluck the ratio out of the air when granting planning permission for supermarkets?

I don't think it's much of a problem the further you get away from the South East, people are generally less selfish in other parts of the country.

women should be excluded from this as they tend to abandon their cars rather than park them

    This I don't like.

However, I wish suprtmarkets would put at least some of the parent and child bays at the furthest end of the car park. Would go some way to prevent them being abused. I don't care about the distance to the store, but need to be able to fully open the doors to get the child seats out.

Conservative Central Office have been in touch. They're worried that their core message is being diluted by those of you trying to express your opinions in your own words, so they'd like you to click on "Edit Post" and cut-and-paste the following text in:
I'm a selfish, arrogant, lazy bastard who would delight in screwing over those less able than I to save myself the trouble of walking fifteen yards

and that way everything will be clear

You're probably right that an ordinary space is a little to tight for a 4x4 but you still don't have to take a disabled space - just take up two ordinary spaces at the further part of the car park.
Everyone with a decent car in London takes up two parking spaces.

It's stops f*ckers parking right next to you in an empty car park.

However it still doesn't stop stupid people reversing into your car.

Oh and people who take up disabled parking spaces should

they need to adjust the ratio in some car parks there are too many disabled spaces that sit empty all the time.

They also should employ traffic wardens on bonuses to police them, £200 fee for parking in a disabled space seems about right to me, plus clamping and tow away.

Liz Jones is disabled its a mental disability lets hope she gets sectioned.

One of the NCP parks in Liverpool has a few spaces that combine disabled or parent/child. Which I thought was at least some common sense applied.

SWMBO has a blue badge. It goes with the chronic rheumatoid arthiritis and the various side effects of the medication that keeps her just about mobile. She can drive perfectly well, but can only walk around 20 yards without pain. She also can't get out of a car door that is only partially open.

You don't need a wheelchair to warrant close access to shops and offices.

As for Liz Jones, she's a fantasist fashion writer with a sideline in victimology. You don't really suppose she's actually taking the piss out of those who abuse the disabled parking sytem, do you...

I am with her. These bays are always empty and if you have a large 4X4 ordinary parking bays are just too narrow
The following are standard space requirements of some typical vehicles.
These may be used as basic minimum reference values but different layouts
such as parallel, herringbone and in-line, have slightly different overall space
requirements and detailed layout of parking spaces will be site specific.
