    Morning.

    Saturday.

    Raining.

    Grey.

    Very very heavy.

    Sort of breathless.

Warmish side of cool in here at 22.7 deg, 24.5 in the kitchen, 23 in the leanto, 22 outside.

1008 mBar, 29.77 in Hg, 756.1 Torr, 14.62 psi, (down from 1011 last night), 71% RH (Lidl electric).

Meanwhile on the 26th of January 2020 Brillo and BR14 popped in, LM parked right outside her flat, behind some oik's ferrari, and I had a mincemeat tart and some rice pud for not quite yet teatime tea.

Shopping trip to Tesco: 34 out, shanks back, done dusted washed dried sanitised & put away.

Got remarkably warm on the way back.

Shopping trip to Morrisons done dusted washed dried sanitised & put away. It rained on the way back.

Not so hot since it rained on me. Knackered now.

    Lunch: brunch. Entertainment: Dead Ringers.

Freecell score: 89%, running average: 82%.

"Captain Kidd (1945)" with Charles Laughton, John Carradine, and that Randolph Scott, the latter, oddly, fails to ride a horse in this one. Most curious casting.

    Tea: soup etc.

    Entertainment: PM.

Maigret: Murder in Monmartre (1960). Lucas is in this version as is only rite & proper, like, not like the French Cremer version where he appears as a bit part in one or two.

Massive Engineering Mistakes E8, E9: NZ Christchurch aftershock causes more damage than the preceding earthquake: building where the lift shaft core is off to the side separating the centre of mass from the centre of rotation collapsed completely apart from the lift shaft bit: column failure due to inadequate spiral wrap of the reinforcement. Texas: New Braunfels Lake Dunlap dam: beartrap gate failed due to corrosion after a mere 90 years, lowering the lake by 10 feet or so. Canada: Winnipeg Manitoba grain elevator ground failure the first time they tried to fill it in 1914: weak soil layer under the floating foundation: so they emptied it & jacked back to level again & it was used until 2020. Manchester tower block hum due to dumb sculpture on the roof resonating at certain wind speeds & directions.

California, Huron, I5 bridge failure due to 17 feet of scour around the foundations during a creek flood event 1995. Miami FL college multistory car park: failed due to lack of grout supporting the shim plates in vertical columns: killed 4. Knocked down & replaced & there was another incident during the construction of the replacement. Colorado: Lawn Lake dam failure flooded Estez Park, 1982 due to 80 year old incorrect installation of a gate valve that eroded the earth core of the dam. Madrid, Spain: golden obelisk that's supposed to shimmy: did it once when the King pressed the button but too expensive to run and maintain since, so shimmy it doesn't.

        Morning all

Sunny but cloudy. Currently 30 degrees, with a high of 31 expected but I think it's going to get hotter than that. Barometer down to 1017 mBar.

        Sunrise 04:44: Sunset 21:22 BST

HWMBO and I popped over the road to the farmers market because I wanted some bacon and he wanted to pick up something for this evening's dinner. I suspect that may be last time we venture out today.

          Afternoon denizens

Cloudy out, and not just a thin haze but a proper layer. It seems to be in heated blanket mode though, as it's 29°C and soon to reach 30° - but, in an unexpected twist, light rain is also forecast in the next hour. The barometers are starting to drop, down to 1005/1013mB already, presaging cooler weather for the start of the coming week

Lunch: Heinz oxtail soup with white toast, the latter made from the last few bits of the dense white loaf

Tea has been brought to me from KFC

Still hot out, but the air conditioner is keeping it down to around 24°C in here

Lots of wildlife stuff today, though slightly less than usual as they switched to the Isle of Wight Festival in the early evening. Some good stuff about lemurs having stink fights though

And this evening, I got back to Sam Pepys and his doings in February 1667 when he was very bogged down with admin work related to the Navy not having any money to fight the war with the Dutch, though he still found time to make bitchy comments about his friends and neighbours

                    Goodnight all

CBS, etc, but with a nice breeze. Not sure if we’ll go to the beach or have a normal Sunday walk.
Another camera body sold on eBay - this one was working, but is over 20 years old. Just BT routers and CompactFlash cards to go, before I go for the next round.
