I had leftover lentil soup/curry for lunch with some leftover crunchy bread.

This evening we're going to our citizens only (+ guests) meat festival. All the bits of the pigs, plus booze, all for free - paid for out of the foreigner's taxes. (And mine!), At least I think it's free. It was last time, but we accidently sat with the VIPs... when we realised, we were going to move, but they insisted we stay. I ended up chatting with the education minister of Baselland. As you do...

Tea has been lamb steaks with chips and beans

And this afternoon and early evening have seen the mundane laundry done

Tonight's major motion picture wasn't a premiere as I watched it some time in the 1970s or 1980s, but I only really remembered one thing about it. It was Operation Crossbow (1965) which is based on the true story of the Allied attempts to stop the V1 and V2 weapons; but I suspect it's a very loose basis, as much of it seems highly unlikely given what we now know about such matters, not least the revelations of R.V. Jones. But it's a good enough yarn. If you were wondering, the thing that had stuck in my mind for all these years was the postwoman delivering letters and then being blown up by the first V2 strike on London. I've had a look on Street View at the location where this actually happened, and it's nothing like the terraced street shown in the film. They probably got given some streets due for "slum clearance" to blow up for the film, given the nature of town planning at the time

And then a rewatch of Æon Flux (2005). When I first watched this, I opined that it wasn't very good. But sometimes one's mood colours one's judgement, so I gave it another chance. Turns out it's not very good

I note that it has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 10%

Finally, E1 of the miniseries The Plot Against America (TV Mini Series 2020) which is an alternative history thing envisaging the well-known American Nazi sympathiser Charles Lindbergh becoming president and siding with Germany in WWII, as seen from the perspective of an American Jewish family. Hard to say if it's going to be good, or if it was thinly-veiled polemicising ahead of the 2020 election over there

        Goodnight all

            Morning.

            Saturday apparently.

            Dark.

            Dank.

            Dreary.

            Sunless.

            Wet.

            Windy.

Cold in here at 11.2 deg, 10.5 in the kitchen, 9 in the leanto.

993.5 mBar, 29.338 in Hg, 745.18 Torr, 14.41 psi, (down from 1007 last night), 61% RH (Lidl electric).

Meanwhile on the 3rd of December 2019: as per yesterday..

            Freecell score: 100%, running average:80%.

            Lunch: brunch.

Entertainment: Dead Ringers. It was funny this week.

            Wind has dropped.

Thing about Oppenheimer on ThisTV or whatever it's called.

Tea: spag with the penultimate portion of that bol stuff: added a shedload of chilli powder so it tasted of sommat. Nearly all gone.

Entertainment: randomly typing the name of a retired colleague led me to Miles Gordon Technology and The Sam Coupe.

He had nothing to do with MGT but I had an interview there sometime in 1990 before they went bust (Jonah effect again).

Freecell score: 88%, running average: 80%.

Entertainment: Engineering cockups. Swedish bridge knocked down by a ship, cars driving off the end because the bridge landed on the ship & took out the radio. Atlantic City multistory carpark collapse: design change: it helps if you bond the floors to the supporting pillars. Chicago skyscraper: designed with inverted fustrums so it looks sinuous: unfortunately it's also subject to oscillation in wind so they had to add fluid dampers & a couple of empty stories so the wind could blow through. California reservoir in LA: ruptured due to the land sinking because of oil extraction: dam cracks, water flows out & kills 5 people. Ooops. I've seen that one before.

David Baddiel's trilogy thing part III. Funny.

              Morning denizens

it's a windy and rainy day out. Milder temperatures come with it though, as it's 9°C and expected to continue climbing, reaching 14° after sunset. The barometers are down, as one would expect with a storm passing by, being 993/990mB

Plus of Storm Bert will be that the last of the leaves will be off trees at bottom of garden and I can remove the netting from my pond. Just been checking my oil tank level. How exciting! Some local music thing with loony lady 1 later.

                  afternoon all

looked in the garden this morning, and the trampoline is embedded in the greenhouse!
                  yesterday, i didn't HAVE a trampoline.
                  OR a greenhouse

I recall the time next door but one's trampoline ended up next to my car. .

                    It was impressive.

Even more impressive, it missed the greenhouse.
