BBC Radio 4 - Round Britain Quiz

I only occasionally catch it on Radio 4 as it's only on for a few weeks (months?) a year and seems to be aired at 11pm on a Saturday night.

Last of the current series was aired last night, back next year, but the archive is worth a listen. They like listener submitted questions if you wanted to occupy yourself thinking up something.
It used to be hosted by Oxford philosopher Anthony Quinton who became master of Trinity College while my brother was an undergraduate there. One summer, I joined my brother and his friends for a few days as they made a film set in the 1920s, which included a scene shot in the college gardens one Sunday afternoon, for which Quinton agreed to appear in the background playing croquet.

He turned up punctually, dressed in white duck trousers, a linen jacket, a Panama hat, and beneath the jacket a stole - a black shirt with a clerical collar. This was without any recommendation or advice on costume beyond the fact that it was supposed to be the 1920s, and he looked absolutely perfect for the part of a clergyman relaxing in the gardens of an English country house.

One of my brother’s friends asked him where he’d got hold of the stole from. “Oh, you should always have a stole about the place; you never know when it might come in handy,” he boomed. “In the 1950s, a friend of mine used to put on a stole and drive around London in an open-topped sports car, whistling at girls!”

You should get a fishing rod, Mackeral are easy to catch and fill your freezer.

You might thank me for that in 6 months time
They occasionally have Mackeral fishing competitions here. About 100 of them line up along the bay.

I have invited HWMBO round to fill the freezer. He said he will leave some gin under the sink....

The sunbed shop is closer than that!

However luckily the co-op is even closer!

I bet you are right - I will have to exercise at night and in black.....

By now, if I followed the late Strangelove Mater, I'd be washing everything in neat Domestos.

As an ex midwife & ward sister she was keen on cleanliness and disinfecting stuff.

Tended to make the apples & oranges taste a bit odd, though.

The assembled congregation might be pleased to learn that the three solar panels currently charging the batter in the Corolla seem to have done the business inasmuch as it started first turn with no requirement to run 60m of cable down the garden to connect up the battery charger.

Nice calm shopping trip though I failed to get any sprouts.

          One way system in Tesco.

No one way system in Morrisons though the carpark is now free for the duration.

          Take that Eurocarpark Nazis.

Oh, and the application of surgical spirit to the hands after visiting both stores, plus the extended washing of hands on the return from same, plus the Fairy Liquiding of the produce has dried the skin on my hands most unpleasantly, leading to the need for moisturiser.

A particularly unpleasant way to go, slow & extended, with a 50% chance of inheriting it from an afflicted parent.
          Tesco and Morrisons!

            You don't have a stole?

I have at least one in every room....

Cat is snoring loudly. He would not last long in the wild being that asleep.

MrsBP gone to the co-op for more milk.

It always amuses me that they get the most abstruse questions on arty farty stuff relatively easily & are often completely stumped by the gentlest of scientific/technical questions.

                    <battery charging hiatus>

As I was about to observe before I was so rudely interrupted, one well remembers Gordon Clough as quizmaster and Irene Thomas as a contestant.

                    What a long time ago.

Tea: Heinz carrot & corriander soup (I've bought enough of it to keep even Morgenstern happy), with several slices of Morrisons wholemeal sunflower and spelt bread, a bramble jelly sandwich, orange segments and custard (now there's more than enough milk to be going on with), and 0.91 pints of good Glengettie tea (now there's another 160 teabags duly purchased this very afternoon).

The flatulence from lunch is well on its way to becoming overwhelming.

The evening's entertainment is probably "The Last Vampyre", presumably not including a Slayer which is somewhat of a disappointment but can't be helped.

                      Is the curve flattening?

To be honest I am a tad disappointed! I expected result to date, in a graph, with predictions.....
