Tonight I finished V for Victory. Excellent book!

And then, glancing through the “also by” pages at the end, I discovered that it’s a sequel! Had I read them in the correct order, I would have understood the mystery surrounding the central characters. On the other hand, the author has done an excellent job of handling exactly this situation, as all was gradually revealed over the course of the story in a satisfying way, yet I can see how it would have worked just as well if one had read the first book and knew the secret from the start

70 up: the Victorians: a 1967 documentary by the same people but investigating those Victorians who were still above ground at the time, which didn't include either of my maternal grandparents, nor my paternal grandfather, whilst the paternal grandmother was off with the fairies in the luny bin. Seemed to have an interminable advert break 10 minutes in.

Sunny start, with just a few wisps of cloud here and there, though some more banks thereof are lurking low on the horizon and it’ll get cloudier this afternoon. It felt a tad chilly when I poked my head out of the bedroom window but it’s 14°, and expected to reach 23° this afternoon which is pretty warm for the last day of summer - the Autumnal Equinox is tonight, just after 1am. The barometers are down a touch at 1018/1026mB

This morning it was all blue sky, sunshine and a few wisps. Now, it's mostly overcast with a few gaps. Currently 24 degrees with a high of 25 expected. Barometer down to 1030 mBar.

afternoon happy campers
tried to return an unusable item to amazon, who only offered EVRI dropoff <no good, no transport> or EVRI pickup.
Chose pickup, although i know EVRI can't EVER find my house <everyone else can, not EVRI>.
saturday came and went, no EVRI.
website on sunday says EVRI attempted pickup.
DID THEY FECK!!! as usual, they lied.
got onto Amazon cust serv. very good, explained that i actively avoid any supplier who publicly admits to using EVRI because of exactly this situation.
refunded costs and told me to keep or discard the item in question.
Why do people use this courier??:?
they are useless.

His Majesty King Charles the Third has graciously consented to award me a PyCharm licence

I’ve been using my own licence ever since I started this government gig, because most devs there use VS Code (which is free) and it’s taken the powers that be this long to wend their way through the many processes involved in approving it, including determining that it isn’t a security risk and so on. But they’ve finally managed it, and also found the funding - which is good because I’m not supposed to use my own licence in the new virtual dev environment, and I only had ten days left on the free trial I’ve been relying on for the last few weeks

Spag bol for tea

The day continued quite sunny with big fluffy cumuli, and was pretty warm too. So not a bad last day of summer - though I spent most of it looking at my monitor instead, as usual

Before agreeing to release the prescription for my HRT, my GP asked for updated weight and blood pressure values without offering an appointment at the surgery for such data to be recorded.

I toddled over to Boots where the pharmacist overrode the scales' demands for £1, and told me it doesn't measure height reliably. Got a nice little ticket nagging me for 0.5 kg overweight. Then they took my blood pressure, which I had to take a photo of as there is no printed ticket output for that.

I was pleased that Boots weighed me as being 2kg lighter with clothes on than my scales at home report when I'm in my birthday suit.

Evidence duly submitted, the prescription request was approved and should be available for pick up in a couple of days.

Art thing this morning. Took some raspberries round to house of one of our regular arty people afterwards, she couldn't drive after eye surgery. She looked like she'd been hit in the eye with a hammer, poor woman.

Rather short walk this afternoon because my foot hurts, damaged summit again. Was in Ashdown Forest and nice lady was doing a survey, how often do I walk there, how long, what was my favourite place etc etc.

Stopped using my little garage gym during summer due to hot weather, just started using it again. Had to set weight lower on a couple of exercises, can't have gone downhill that much in a couple of months surely?
