Sunny start out today! It's not supposed to be excessively warm though and will get a bit cloudier later, with a chance of rain around teatime. It's 15°C with a target of 21° and the barometers are steady at 988/995mB
Monday again. The start of this week will either be very hectic as we prepare for the final migration, likely to take place on Wednesday or Thursday, or very non-hectic if we've actually managed to get everything prepared in plenty of time. The latter was, of course, the plan; but past experience shows that somehow, even the best-laid plans still result in the former
Walk has been walked (>10km).
Pleasantly cool out, although still humid. CBS, etc and the earlier mist has burned off.
Builder due round shortly to replace a few windows and doors.
Coolish in here at 21.2 deg, 22.5 in the kitchen, 20 in the leanto.
995 mBar, 29.38 in Hg, 746.3 Torr, 14.43 psi, (up from 993 last night), 66% RH (Lidl electric).
Meanwhile on the 2nd of February 2020 BR14 popped in, Brillo popped in a lot, xogg put the hinges on The Wrong Edge of a new cupboard door, and LM said she liked a good sulk now & again.
Shopping trip to Morrisons done dusted washed dried sanitised & put away. Couldn't be arsed to go to Boots.
Lunch: brunch. Entertainment: the 11:45 R4 thing. Rebecca Stott finished last week.
More potching in the garage. Entertainment: the HS2 debacle on R4. The tow haired ****wit featured in this one, fortunately briefly.
Outside a mediocre mug of coffee.
Yet more potching. These screws won't sort themselves. 'Tis a bit of a pity I've run out of those punch tape thingies.
Tea: Tesco 3 bean chilli con carne with rice. Nice enough.
Entertainment: PM. Talking about pensions <click>.
Some UFO crap or other. couldn't be arsed.
Neil Oliver and the Iron Age After Stonehenge. Nearly fell asleep a couple of time.
Skinwalker Ranch. Another couple of clip shows IIRC. EOS.
Foyle's War S2 E2. The stolen petrol one. With a bit of added Irish thrown in for good measure.
Blue sky with lumps of fluff. Currently 19 degrees ('feels like' 21) with a high of 23 expected. Cloud cover set to increase along with the risk of rain by late afternoon / early evening. Barometer down to 998 mBar.
Sunrise 05:10; Sunset 21:05 BST
My IKEA delivery is two stops away. Containing things to facilitate hosting 8 people for a BBQ in a few weeks' time. It better not rain on the day. I could have gone to Wembley to collect but the cost of hiring a car to pick up the items was more than the delivery charge.
Lunch was a cold pork steak in a bap (wholemeal) with apple sauce
And as soon as I'd had that, I had to join a Teams meeting for the purpose of effecting introductions between myself and the team I'll be joining once this project is over
They're a nice enough bunch. Now we just have to wait and see if I actually join the team, or flee into the night
It seems like quite a mild storm; only just over the line from drizzle to rain and although the map is showing lightning strikes quite close by, they aren't very thundery
Tea has been chicken madras with rice and naan (I remembered to buy some!)
To go along with this, the second half of Storyville: The Contestant, as I'd only watched the first forty minutes last week, up to the point when he completed his Japanese TV task. He was left pretty screwed up by over a year of isolation while doing that, but he's gone on to do some pretty remarkable, and more meaningful, things with his life since then. If you haven't seen it, it's well worth watching
And so to the end of The Corner That Held Them, with the aftermath of the Peasants' Revolt reaching even to the rural backwater of the convent, though luckily not too badly. And various other things happened too, but as the author herself asserted, the book doesn't actually have a plot, so there was nothing to be wrapped up neatly with a bow - just the convent and the nuns, continuing on their way
I'd never read anything by Sylvia Townsend Warner before, but I liked this enough that I've now found various articles about it in the Journal of the Sylvia Townsend Warner Society which I shall read as and when
Tuesday tomorrow, and we have the go/no-go meeting about the planned migration to look forward to. Either way: seven more days…
