    Morning all
I lined the pond near our house yesterday - the one that had completely dried up, I suspect a combination of lack of rain, evaporation and absorption into the concrete, but possibly also due to cracks (that I couldn't spot). As a temporary measure - i.e. until we replace it with a bigger/deeper one - I put down a sheet of heavy-duty damp proof membrane (The kind used in houses to stop moisture rising up through concrete).
Then the sky grew dark and precipitation started. This morning our ponds has some spots of wet on it and two "puddles", each approaching 50mm across. By my calculations, it's going to be about a decade before it is full.

So, yesterday morning and evening. Hmmmm.
Was it just the forum that was down yesterday evening, or the whole site?

        Morning.

        Thursday.

        Grey. Very.

        Sunless. Completely.

        Wet. Considerably.

Cool in here at 21.5 deg, 22 in the kitchen, 20.5 in the leanto.

1010 mBar, 29.83 in Hg, 757.6 Torr, 14.65 psi, (unchanged), 66% RH (Lidl electric).

Meanwhile on the 1st of February 2020 Scruff acquired a G Plan Long John Sideboard, LM wished she'd had the money & space to buy more G Plan, Brillo popped in, BR14 watched the remake of "Whisky Galore", whereas I watched the remake of "Farewell my lovely (1975)", and NF was listening to Blondie, and LM lightened the mood with the Jonestown massacre documentary.

Freecell score: 90%, running average: 83%.

Lunch: brunch. Entertainment: the Rebecca Stott thing at 11:45. TWATO.

Still grey out. And drizzly with it.

The HS2 thing: The Kiss of Death: the name "Grayling" was mentioned. Doomed etc.

Minor potching in the garage: nearly sorted all the nuts, bolts, washers, and screws (machine, self tapping, wood, metal, plastic).

Now getting outside a mug of nice mediocre coffee as is apparently now my wont as I turn into a slightly younger version of my father.

Judging by yesterday's viewing of the UFO bollox I may have acquired the ability to sleep in front of the idiot lantern from my mother. .

All I need now is a little black & white cat and the conversion will be complete. .

More gentle potching. Found lots of 2BA nuts. All I need now are lots of 2BA screws. .

        Tea: beans on toast.

        Entertainment: PM <click>

Lake Wobegon. Goodness me. The Exclusive Brethren. Another fundamentalist bunch.

The inevitable UFO bollox on Blaze: I wonder if I can stay awake today: Nope.

Trucking Hell S9 E10. The repeat was the artic full of oranges on its side up against a lamp post. EOS10.

Foyle's War S1 E4. Goodness me, following on from The 10th Doctor yesterday, today's ep had Marvin the Paranoid Android, Mr Thursday, & Chief Superintendent/ACC Bright.

          Morning all

Cloudier than yesterday but still bright and dry. Currently 22 degrees ('feels like' 24) with a high of 26 expected. Change of rain on and off all day. Barometer up to 1017 mBar.

          Sunrise 05:04; Sunset 21:10 BST

Looks like another quiet day at the coal faces. I have a load of documentation to write but I am currently awaiting inspiration on those.

            Afternoon

Generally overcast and somewhat muggy today, gentle breeze, sparse cloud cover. 25.5 deg in the study..
I must set up the weather station for outdoor temp etc

Was impressed to get a message from PayPal this morning informing that my old domain provider has accepted my dispute without argument.

Refund on it's way to my card. Which is nice...

Speculative call from an old agent about an architect role.. Hybrid but not local enough to warrant considering unfortunately. Still it's a start.

Looks cool enough outdoors to consider sorting outbuilding this afternoon

Do what I did. Pond fed by buried pipes from overflows on my water butts on greenhouse and sheds. Always fills itself. Little pond skaters and things seem happy.

More really awful nights of bad sleep. Group walk yesterday and coffee at local cafe with nice mahjongy people today cheered me up a bit.

                i'd like that
I've got a 1M3 water tank fed from garage gutters, and 3 barrels from house, but only hose/gravity feed from tank to pond.

The intention is to put guttering on the summerhouse to fill it - hadn't thought of putting a butt on it, but that's probably a good idea. Currently have 4 whiskey barrels, two large plastic butts and one small one on the house and greenhouse, and guttering in for a couple of IBCs off the sheds.

Quite a busy day today, for a change. For the record, lunch was leftover roast pork belly slices in a bap (wholemeal) with apple sauce

And now the working day is done so there are two more weeks/eight more days to go before I'm finally done with this project and get a break!

They want to move me to the team that maintains an internal app. It's a bit dull, I think. Anyway, they were talking about me starting early in August and I told them no, not going to happen

TBH I'm still seriously considering packing it in. Four years at the same client feels like plenty. On the other hand, it's steady work and the money's good

I'll wait and see whether I get a waiver on the going-to-the-office thing. If not…
